Possibly a structural thing. Same base and supporting structure may not have been able to support bigger. They had to drill incredibly deep for the support footings.

Building the infrastructure was the biggest part of construction

Yea, could be taller - doesn't block out the sun.

This new scoreboard is smaller than Auburn's, so it's already obsolete and the only ads on the AU board are a few very small ones at the bottom.

LSUs new one is 152x37

Auburn's is 190x57

Auburn is also building a new one in the other endzone that'll be 154x47

But look at the mess of shite Auburn is building to support their new one

Vs what LSU is doing

It's absolutely not necessary to have one as big as Auburns. Theirs looks really out of place.

Are the sections left empty to left and right of scoreboard reserved for hard ads?

Those are for speakers. 19’ wide.

Looks great! Just wish they hadn’t gone with LED light show while they were adding scoreboard.

Still surprised Auburn hasn’t decided to cover up the erector set building of seating.

God I hope not

Those are the speaker towers. Previously they were covered with the list of SEC/national championships, not ads.

On another note, it appears from the picture in OP that they did actually change the speakers (rather than simply reinstalling the existing Danley system in a “new” tower). It looks like a line array system, best I can tell.

I wish it would have been wider rather than taller to create more of an enclosed feeling in the North Endzone

I think it's awesome that LSU will finally have a scoreboard bigger than Zachary High School

There was a post months ago stating that the company working on everything had to start from scratch because all the lines were beyond dated.

I like the size. Reminds me the Jaguars scoreboard.

Yeah I saw that, but was still a little worried they might cheap out and try to just relocate the old speakers to fit the new video board. Replacing wiring wouldn’t force them to replace the actual speaker arrays.

In fact it would be pretty disappointing if this was driven by some surprise that came up during construction - i.e. they found a bunch of issues so they rushed to buy a line array system and threw it up there. I would sincerely hope that they put more planning into replacing the speakers than that, considering how big of an issue the stadium audio has been.
