The benches used to be on that side until they built the practice facility behind the PMAC. LSU moved the benches to the current side so they'd be on the same side as the practice facility and the LSU bench would be right by the portal to it.

This is not true. All they did was move the cameras to the other side.

Its absolutely true. The benches have always been on the north side of the court. I have been going to games since I was a student in the early 70s. Where do some of you people get our ideas from?

They moved the cameras many years ago, which is why the team's backs are on the TV instead of the front.

You realize the benches have been on the side the court they are now since at least 2002 when I was a student. That’s pretty much 20 years. Most people on the board probably aren’t that old.

I feel like this is standard in every other arena but the only thing we get to see as lsu fans are the geriatrics sitting the whole game.

You mean move the TV camera well to the other side.

Its been that way since 1972 when I was a student, but LSU always had the bench on the right side facing the scorers table. I have seen many big game winning shots on that end of the court from Mike Darnell's half court buzzer beater to knock off 5th ranked Alabama to Rick Blanton beating UNLV, Chris Jackson with a corner three to beat Vandy and Ross Neltner with a put back to beat BAMA.

The camera is what changed sides. Some schools have the benches facing the camera. Some schools have benches back to the camera.

I’ve always assumed the reason they went to this current config was to ensure more TV time for those LED billboards. Justifies them to charge more for those ads.

Not tracking. It’s a rectangle. Couldn’t you just move to the other side?

That’s exactly why we have the current setup. Those LED billboards come in sections. The side opposite the benches have a total of 5 sections. 2 on each of the baselines and 1 directly in the middle. I think there used to be 10, but they added the court side seating this year. There are only 4 on the bench side.

I think all they would have to do is move the camera to the other side and flip the court, but I don’t think they’ll give up that ad money.

When a rowdy student section was mid-court across from the benches, that was the optimum angle to get all of the jumping screaming fans. However, you're right. It looked like a morgue in the big money seats, because the people that get those seats are old and don't get rowdy at all.

This is not what he was talking about whatsoever… he was talking about charting numbers like how many times a player jumps off two feet, jumps off one foot etc.

There is absolutely no reason to move the benches. This is one more example of the stupid focus on nonsense by some of you people. There are probably some logistics with the scoring table and clock operator setup on that side of the court. The benches were switched to the opposite side of the scoring table when the practice facility was built for easier access to the dressing room. The Tigers dressing room was always on the southwest corner until then. Lets focus on getting better player to sit on that bench and forget about where it is. located.

You're missing hte point of how to attrack better players

the arena is a big deal
as you can see, Kim has figured out how to pack the PMAC....winning cures all

that said, PMAC is old....it needs as much help as possible

Also if your team isn't conditioned well enough to walk across a court how will you win anything?

He also talked about how much walking they had to get from the locker room to the weight room back to the locker room as well as far away the coaches offices were from everything. To Wade every unneeded motion needed to go.

It’s not a conditioning thing.

Player rolls an ankle they take him/her to the locker room to get it taped up to come back to play. Player instead of coming out the tunnel to the bench to be put in has to now walk all the way around the outside of the court through the fans or has to wait for a timeout to come across the court.

Why do they have a medical tent on football sidelines? Convenience so every time a player gets hurt you don’t have to go all the way to the locker room. Why are baseball clubhouses attached to the dugout. Just soon have them in right field according to y’all. Convenience isn’t important.

If you want the players on the opposite side the court then the camera make the argument to move the camera and flip the court not move the benches away from the locker room.

The benches are in the same place they have been since at least the mid-80s: the north sideline. I was in the Bengal Brass from 86-89, so I know. Sometime since then, the home and visitor benches have swapped ends, but the scorers table hasn't moved.

What changed is that the cameras were moved to the other side of the court. One reason might have been to make sure there was always advertising in the background of the TV shot.
