And Auburn went to the national championship the year after firing Chizik so there is precedent for an immediate comeback for our new coach

This doesn't appear to be true at all, or he wouldn't have written this.

I wouldn't call going big...Fisher, Franklin or Kiffin. That sounds like absolute cancer.

If Woodards other hires are any indication, I'm going to put my money on Dabo Swinney as the first call. Yes, Clemson isn't great this year, but I'm going to guess he gets first consideration.

What would be funny is if he called Saban, but he is too old and entrenched at Alabama. Dude is bigger than Bear now.

If I'm putting $100 on someone today, I'm going to tell you someone you're not suspecting...Brian Kelly.

And guys like Napier won't be on the short list. Woodward is going big.

Who's big though?

Saban? Not happening
Urban? doubtful
Dabo?

Those are really the Big 3 in college football. Who else is a marquis coach?

Lincoln Riley? Don't want and he wouldn't come.
Kirby Smart? Not coming.

Matt Campbell and Napier aren't that far apart imo.
Is Kiffen really going big? Not imo.

I think you can rule out guys like Urban and Freeze. We're firing one coach partly because he has questionable moral character. Not going to sign up those hypocrites.

Maybe Brian Kelly - he has baggage too though. But LSU needs a taskmaster imo. No more of this bullshite rah rah crap.

Bingo!

LSU makes stars of it’s coaches and we have 3 titles from our last 3 coaches to prove it .

Get us someone stable who can coach at least one position without assistance and we get at least another title while staying relevant each and every year.

I kind of agree.

LSU needs a no-nonsense guy that will instill some discipline and structure the program without the aid of some goon like Austin Thomas.

I think it will end up being Brian Kelly if the job comes open. He makes under $2M right now. Besides the student incident, he runs a clean program. He is the type of hire Woodard seems to favor and has the personality that mirrors his last two hires...Johnson and Mulkey.

He hasn't been as successful as some others, but ND is not the same program it was 30+ years ago.

I think it's going to be Brian Kelly. I called the Jay Johnson hire. Maybe I'll go 2/2.

My initial reaction to Kelly is repulsion, but he actually grows on me the more I think about it.

This is something that all LSU fans need to remember. If 2 idiots can win national titles here, can you imagine what a powerhouse we would be if we can get a really good coach?

Five or ten years ago I would have agreed. He's 60.

Prestige isn't the only thing. I am hoping for a real search to identify a driven successful coach in his middle age with ten plus years of coaching in his future

When the pearl clutchers balked at Fisher’s gaudy $75 million deal, Woodward chuckled that he paid market value for a national title-winning coach. Expect him to do the same again, as Woodward won’t be Wal-Mart shopping for a hot assistant or a trendy Group of Five up-and-comer

That’s my fear, that Woodward will not take any chances, other than the chance that the national championship winning coach he hires for some astronomical contract ends up being as big of a bust as Jimbo has been at A&M.

That's not going to happen. Wooodard I'm guessing wants a steady, proven hand right now that can also win.

If you get 5-7 years out of Kelly, that's a win. We like to toss a coach over the side generally anyway around that time frame.
