I agree to an extent that O is to blame for a lot of the dysfunctional attitudes on the team. But almost transferring out due to a NIL deal and opting out of a season to not hurt your draft stock due to injury after having had the best season as a WR in the History of the SEC are two completely different things.

I read it. Being a long time reader/rare poster, most on here have zero clue. Just felt the urge (lol) to tell how players feel and the process. LSU/college is a great experience, but a stepping stone to their bigger dream -- the NFL.

Why do the fans need to side with the players 100% of the time?
Do they think the level of scrutiny they’ll be under if they make it to the NFL will be any LESS than what they’re under in Baton Rouge?
God forbid they don’t make it to the NFL, how do they want to look back at their time here? LSU fans will love you forever if you just play hard through thick and thin. That’s all we want.
Andre Anthony isn’t the most talented player we’ve ever had come through here but I’d hire him or at least buy him a beer way ahead of some of these guys we’ve had who clearly played for the back of the jersey first and the letters on the helmet second (if at all).

This isn't really about Chase though. Very bad comparison by OP. I'm just seeing how far he'll take it.
Fair point

They don't. Unpopular to many beliefs/desires from fans, the players in college play for themselves first (playing time or career vision) BALANCED with playing for a championship, their teammates, coaches, or school. None of these players besides walk-ons are LSU at any cost. Not even Andre Anthony

That’s fine, for example I don’t think anyone believes Patrick Peterson was all LSU all the time growing up in South Florida, but he embraced the school and the fans and played with intensity and passion. Of course he had his own vision and goals, nobody expects them not to.

You think they decision was just made?
What's more mystifying is that an entire segment of our society can go through 16 years of education without learning the difference between "they" and "their."

100% agree. It's a tough balance for players. You can't blame kids for wanting to leave the CEO environment. Especially if Saban/Bama is calling offering $$

the syntax of this sentence tells you exactly why this thread was started, and it has nothing to do with football

the players in college play for themselves first This is why there should be a minor league for the NFL that isn't collegiate sports!

quote:This is completely inane. They are supposed to do whatever they want, frick everybody else, and we should just be okay with that? If your wife was offered a 100k by some rich guy to frick her, would you be okay with that?
#5 pick, guaranteed money, offensive rookie of the year, and leaving the toxic Ed O environment vs. staying? hmmm
Stingley made the right move too, but yall not ready for that conversation.
If you're willing to do something, be willing to accept the consequences. It's like what everybody gets wrong with the first amendment. You can say what you want, but we also have the right to say, f- you, we don't support that.
Stingley got an NIL deal, York did too among others. Boutte would have gotten one too, but nah, wanted to go to Bama so he had to be paid off. Then he got another NIL right before the portal closed by the same guy. I wonder why is that?

I honestly can’t blame him. The program had gone completely to shite under O by that point. Can’t fault him for focusing on the NFL. And it worked.
At the same time I'm not going to rag on somebody that does fault him. He quit because he knew he was a first round lock not because of covid concerns. That is going to rub a lot of people the wrong way, especially when you think about guys who needed that year and that combine to get eyes on them, and covid took all that away.
