You’re correct but in that hypbrid style D we play the Star is a lot like what you’re talking about. Almost like the old box safety/Tampa 2 WLB Hybrid position. Frank Beamer used to have a position like it in his defenses but I forgot what he called it.

yeah whole the position isn’t super different, how we’ve been using Burns would be a great way to use Perkins.

I would also rather see him in run support lineup deep than Burns.

Honestly, idk if there is anything Burns doesn’t much better than Perkins.

That would be idea in the traditional 3-4 front but we play a hybrid with our NT and DT playing like a 4-3 but we have a 3-4 type end in Jones and a Jack LB who basically plays like a strong side 3-4 OLB on the other side.

Good point, if you go back and watch the first quarter vs USC we blitzed Burns a lot and he was getting pressure but I can’t help wondering if Perkins might’ve got home and made a sack or two if he’d have been in that spot.

Why did it take the coaching staff this long when tRant has been saying this since like April?

Just going out on a limb. INJURIES. Zy Alexander has been hurt. He allows Sage to move to safety. Guillory got hurt. This allows Shand to move inside.

Perkins is an evolving enigma. I think if he had strong DT’s in front of him, keeping him clean, he could run around and make plays. However, with weak DT position, he struggles getting off blocks. Guillory going down only makes it worse. We will see if Star makes him better.

Burns and Sage to the bench. Don't care who we have behind them. Play some fricking freshman they can't do much worse

I’d rather get some kid experience than have those guys out there. Results would be the same.

Agreed. I thought it was hilarious that Burns was named preseason all-SEC.

I think these are solid moves, but it's concerning that it wasn't addressed more in the offseason.

The bigger issue, imo, is Joe Sloan's relative inexperience at this level as an OC.

If kelly listened to the rant he would have benched daniels and we would have never had a hiesman winner last year.

Honestly had he listened to the usually stupid arm chair coaches against USCw we might have won that game.

Had he listened to the arm chair coaches about spying Milroe during the Bama game last year (which he said they should’ve done in hindsight), we may have had a chance in that game.

It’s at the point where I find myself hoping that BK has a guy on staff who reads the Score Board. I really don’t have any faith in this coaching staff.

It's been my concern for over a year now that Brian Kelly is more of a reactionary coach as opposed to an anticipatory coach. It's like he doesn't see things coming, the way great coaches do.

After the Florida State game last year, he admitted that he didn't know his team. This year, he slammed his fist on the table after the USC game and said we're still talking about the same things, clearly frustrated.

It seems like LSU has to lose a game, then slog around a bit more, and he eventually figures it out after the Tigers have their backs against the wall. That's not a real recipe for success in the SEC.

I don't want to hear a coach saying what they SHOULD have done earlier. I like Brian Kelly overall. I like the staff he's put together, and I really like the way recruiting is going, but I would hope a coach with over 30 years as the head guy could anticipate problems and solutions before they put the team in a precarious position.

I dont think that’s as big an issue.

execution has been worse than play calling.

Against Nicholls we had 4 punts.
In 3 drives, We had -16 yards in penalties in those drives and a 14 yard gain removed for NonPlay because of an illegal touch.

the fourth we were just running clock.

Weeks is the first guy we've had on defense in YEARS that plays with high level intensity each snap. He shouldn't come off the field unless injured.

And go thru three head coaches and a half dozen coordinators per season while doing so. And we would pay them minimum wage hourly.

better late than never. it does appear Kelly is starting to see problem and solution faster, though. Which is cool. just need the learning curve to get faster and faster, so it can happen in game time.
