Exactly. He was probably making sure the "prey" was okayand suggesting the "prey" just lay down next time he gets after him.

Standing over someone is the fastest way to draw a flag. He did it multiple times. I have no idea how he didn’t get a penalty.

By the way, somehow this thread subtly outed some of the dumbest fricking people and comments I’ve ever seen on this board. Wasn’t expecting that when I clicked on this topic.

Agree 100%, he has already been flagged twice for taunting. I get the excitement but a sack, hard tackle doesn't mean jack when it costs your team a free first down. He easily could have been flagged for that yesterday on 2 occasions. COACH BK continue to address that one flaw in Perkins game.

He wasn’t only standing over them and staring IS the very definition of taunting PLUS he was running his mouth. He will get flagged and believe me other coaches are going to point it out before games and complain during.

If standing over a player is taunting, the refs were allowing Arkansas to do the same thing to us. I’ve seen this in multiple games now and no calls.

If we get to a point where one can't stand and look at what just happened without verbal messages fans will check out

Seriously, expecting a guy to comport himself with just a little decorum is expecting too much? Not asking him to be a saint or be perfect. All I am saying here is I have seen him do something a couple of times that may come back to bite him.

I also suspect that older players and the coaches will give him direction on how to direct that emotion in a way that won't potentially cost the team 15 yards at some point. Because I do think that emotion is part of what allows him to play the way he does, so you don't want to stifle that, just redirect it.

The incident you mentioned, where his guys pulled him back, is an indication others are helping to guide him and really that the team is being smart about this sort of stuff, having each other back in a smart way. Those guys pulling him away is why I am probably not as worried as the OP, just a little concerned. Even that may be mostly because LSU has had a history of those things biting us at the absolute worst time.

Agreed. He’s a great player, but he runs his mouth a bit much.

Which that would be fine with me except that he could be flagged for it at a crucial time.

And you know those fricking officials will be looking for every opportunity to throw a flag on us in the SECCG.

Yeah they will call that at the SECCCG on national TV if not against AM.

I am sure the SEC office will tell the refs to watch for it.

I hate to say this, and I realize I’ll be downvoted to hell, but Perkins is the perfect personality type to react to sudden, extreme stardom the way Mathieu did.

All.he has to do is stand over whoever he tackles... and that's taunting.

If he's coached right... he'll make the play and then just walk away.

Ridiculous! It’s not expecting too much for players to play with discipline AND emotion. THAT’s how championships are won.

Perkins came dangerously close to taunting penalties many times during the game and it was amazing the coaching staff evidently ignored it or they addressed it and it did not stop.

Whether standing over a player and glaring at him should or should not be taunting is a different subject. Whether Arkansas players did it to is a different subject. Whether the refs are inconsistent is a different subject.

Every time a player stands over another player after a big hit and either bows up or appears to talk trash, that player gives the refs an opportunity to throw a flag and negate a big play.

In a 13-10 game just one such penalty could have changed the outcome.

Perkins had one of the most dominating performance I have ever seen by a tiger player. But I too cringed when I saw him risk taunting penalties. It’s amazing the number of posters on here who don’t appreciate the risk.
It was worrisome to me the coaches did not seem able to stop it during the game.

And none of this is meant as a knock on Perkins or the fabulous game he had. It’s just that giving an official the opportunity to call a taunting penalty is dumb football.

what did he do to 'taunt'?

He stood over the person he just tackled while talking shite several times.

I don't think it's a big deal, but it will 100% yield a taunting penalty at some point if he keeps doing it.
