It’s strange what former coaches some of you suck off and what others y’all hate.

He’s a good recruiter
The traditional recruiting he did no longer exists. In basketball, you not only have the agents for NIL, but AAU and it’s politics and scumbag coaches and then the shoe and apparel companies and their NIL deals with HS players that often funnel them to programs that rep the same brands.
NIL or not, you can't discount the ability to find good players. Some schools (Duke, Kentucky, etc) just suck up all the "name" guys, and play that way.
Other programs find guys who aren't as touted, but are able to win just as well. Look at Houston, for example.
If Jones can get some of those guys, let's take him in.

Johnny Jones would be a good addition to the staff. It’s not like he’s been doing nothing since he was at LSU.
After he was fired from LSU, he was on Musselman’s staff at Nevada for a couple years before he took the Texas Southern job. Then he took Texas Southern to the NCAA tournament 3 times.
Like it or not, he’s still a coach who’s taken 3 different schools to the NCAA tournament. Basically his biggest downfall was getting Ben Simmons here.

Does Brady still do LSU radio?
So we’ll have 1 coach we fired talking about a team coached by another coach we fired and an assistant who is a 3rd coach we fired?
While we’re at it, let’s go get Trent Johnson. Then we’ll have everyone who coached this team for the 2+ decades prior to McMahon.
ETA: I'm not against it. He's had success at his other jobs. There must be SOME good coaching traits there. I just find the scenerio humorous.

LOL, what a joke this is becoming

As long as he isn’t allowed to do any actual coaching it’s fine. Dale Brown’s in game coaching sank like a stone when he took over as the primary assistant and we all know how much talent he wasted as HC. But gotta satisfy the Brown faction with a spot for BBQ boy so whatever.

As a guy who like Jones more than the average TD poster even I can admit I think Jones’ number 1 attribute even going back to his days as an LSU assistant was dealing with AAU/politics/scumbag handler coaches. That was his “traditional recruiting”. The dude got Tony Mitchell to North Texas and was Dales bagman. Much less his time as HC at LSU.
Most of today’s modern NIL “agents” for these guys was yesterdays “handlers”

Oh yeah Johnny Jones had such a stellar career as a head coach at LSU.

A- he’s been out of the major recruiting game for a few years now working for mid and low majors. And those connections to the guys still in the game are less valuable than in the past because…
B- the shoe and apparel companies are directly giving all of the top players NIL deals now. They can lock them in to going to brand sponsor schools now where, similar to football before NIL, only a small number of the top players got under the table money for things like that in the past.
They pretty much own the handlers and agents in college hoops. I doubt Jones has had much exposure to all of that considering the schools he’s been with recently don’t have the money to play in that pool.
The NIL money will attract players that are affiliated with Nike, but Jones is a political fossil, not some fricking recruiting difference maker you seem to believe he will be.

I think you’re making way too big a deal out of an assistant basketball coach hire. It’s neither great nor terrible. If his name wasn’t Johnny Jones and former player, assistant and head coach at LSU, very few people would even notice, let alone opine on the hire.

Damned good thing that won't be his title this time, isn't it dipshit?

Dumb . Simmons average 19 PPG 12 rebounds and 5 assists while shooting 56% in his only season of college basketball.

Why?
JJ is exactly at the right school for him. He is in his mid to late 60’s. What can he do to help recruiting? Bad decision.
By the way, frick the Dale Faction!
Wade needs to do this his way

Is this to appease all the Dale Brown slimy cocksuckers still around the program? Looking at you Mr. Temple.

Probably. We just all know his shortcomings well and the run it back thing rarely works out in college athletics. I think Wade will be an exception to that, but Jones not so much.
