Built the same way, both hard throwers, both massive f’n dudes. I think Skenes has the potential to reach the big unit

He looked like a complete pitcher tonight for the very first time. He said as much in his post game interview. He FINALLY got command of his slider. That 2-seamer and FB have been there all season. Noticed that he only had 4 Ks on FBs? THAT’S the difference between him getting to the same level as far a “pitcher vs a thrower” like McDonald and Nola and Peever were. They K with off speed and/or pitch to contact.

Skenes this season is reminding me of Nolan Ryan more than anybody else. Big stocky strong guy, that little hitch before he winds up, that effortless delivery, and the ball just exploding up to the plate. May he have better control than Big Tex though!

Watching him this season is a treat will will probably not see the likes of again.

Why be Randy Johnson when he can just be Paul Skenes?

Nolan Ryan is/was 6’1 200 LBs
Randy was a Lefty and 6’10 225
Pablo Skenes 6’5(6)6 235-240

Looks like he is making his own mold

It’s the key to having a reasonavble pitch count, too.

Or maybe he’s just like the guy they’ve been comparing him to all season that is the exact same size and height too. You know, Strasburg?

The coaching and technology is a little difference today. Ryan never had a pitching coach until he got to the Angels. None.
They robbed him of his only Cy Young giving it to Palmer. That was a travesty of epic proportions. When Ryan got older, he REALLY became dominant. At 46 he was throwing 98 and his breaking pitches were unhittable. Just crazy he became.

You aren’t even close.

Randy Johnson was a 6’10 long limbed lefty that threw pretty much sidearm.

Skenes is a thick lower half righty with a 3/4 delivery.

They look nothing alike.
