I believe that’s why Casey is being talked about. If y’all hire Bianco over Casey? Jesus.

So let's get a list of all of the reasons here.

Supported a pedo
Too old
Doesn't know the south
Never been outside of Oregon
Burned out and quit

Anything else I am leaving out?

I would only want Mcdonell (not leaving) or Godwin. Vitello is an excellent coach but doesn’t have the recruiting and history the other two do. If you can’t get Godwin or Mcdonell and you don’t hire Casey, something went wrong in the coaching search. Casey is a very very good coach.

Even when OregonSt was a perennial power under Casey, I didn’t know much about them and only watched them in the postseason.

For those that know/remember them under Casey, Did they play West Coast small ball or what was their general program philosophy?

I understand that concern but sometimes a little time off will re-ignite you, as well as a new school and new fan base .... especially a fan base like LSU.

While Casey may have retired for some health reasons that would be a possible issue, he DID NOT retire due to burning out... lol.

LINK

quote:

Earlier this month, Chris Petersen — 55 years of age — resigned as head football coach at Washington, citing burnout after 31 years of continuous coaching at the college level.

At his home in Corvallis, Pat Casey watched Petersen's press conference with empathy.

"I felt like I was sitting in his chair," said Casey

quote:

"I've coached against guys who are great people who don't take it home with them. I was never able to do that. Therefore, (I felt) the stress and the accountability and responsibility. I never felt anxiety, but I put a lot of pressure on myself. What he's saying is real. There's such a big part of you that doesn't want to do it. There's such a big part of you that doesn't know what to do. There's another part of you that says, 'I can only do it one way.' And I'm cheating myself and every player if I can't do it that way."

quote:

But Casey increasingly felt a tug from things he had missed over the years. He wasn't sure he could continue to give 100% to the standards he had set as coach.

quote:

People don't realize the time you take away from the things you never got to experience," he said. "There were times when I could have spent more time with my kids, but I spent it recruiting. There were times when I could have spent more time talking with my wife. Instead, I was upset and stressed about things I couldn't control.

They were NOTHING like typical west coast ball. UCLA always comes to mind and they were never like that. Scored a lotttttt of runs

From an article at the time of his retirement with direct quotes from him. In another article he is quoted as saying he was glad he didn’t step down “5 years ago” referencing the fact he would have missed their last championship.
quote:

"It's the day you take off your uniform and you go to put it on again, and you don't have the same energy or passion as you did the last time," Casey told me then. "That's when you say, 'OK, somebody else needs to do this, because this isn't fair to the guys'."

I thought of that quote Thursday when Casey announced his decision to retire after 24 seasons, 900 victories and three national championships at Oregon State. He sounded Thursday like a coach who knew, deep down, that he still had something to give. But could he give everything? That was the question he couldn't answer, and the nonanswer told him it was time to walk away.

"What I expect out of my players on the field, I expect out of myself," Casey said. "Right now I'm not positive that I can give that same effort that I expect of them. I'm not sure I can't, but I will never put the uniform on if I can't do it with the same passion that I expect of them."

Well that’s good because I think LSU fans would riot with the UCLA smallball approach to the game.

Not enough rings for people. He hasn’t one a championship every single year and gone undefeated for his entire career.

Yeah no they never played typical small ball unless necessary against UCLA type pitching.

Exactly what I said earlier.

He puts more pressure on himself than outsiders ever could.

I don’t follow baseball as much as some of y’all but this seems like it’d be a strange hire and fit. He’s practically paul’s age and already retired once

Hopefully a smokescreen leak. Im sure he probably reached out a couple days ago. Maybe just some agent buzz as well.

This feels more like bill snyder going for a top 5 job than Urban Meyer going to tOSU
