re: Pat Casey now "leading candidate" for the head coaching job per Kendall Rogers

I mean the fact that he stated he was burnt out. He didn't have the pressure from fans at Oregon State that he would have at LSU. If he was burnt out before, he won't last long at LSU

Its nothing at all like this.
So who else has skins on the wall like he does? No one. Corbin is the closest. He isn't leaving Vandy.
Or gamble on another coach winning big here. I would take Casey over Godwin.

Nobody wanted to listen to me the past couple of days...

Just a smokescreen. Ray Tanner is on the way.

No, there is no ambiguity in that statement. You aren’t going to build a class through the portal.
Most of the top Louisiana kids are coming here regardless. That will always be the bulk of the class

On paper it would be a great hire. Who else you gonna find with 3 nattys to his name?
But in the details...he's 63, his entire life is in Oregon. Born in Oregon, went to school in Oregon, has only coached in Oregon, recruits the PNW, his family is all rooted in Oregon. Plus he retired from being burned out. I question the drive he'll have to be this far from everything he's ever known, knowing that this is a more temporary gig at the end of his career rather than being hungry to prove himself.

Tough to call a 3 time champ hire a dud. I have my issues with it but there are worse moves on the table…Bianco
I would much rather Bianco. There are these things called morals.

Idk why people are shocked that people in their 60s want to get the frick out of Oregon. He’s probably a conservative scared shitless of that disaster of a state. Who cares??

So with the football team dealing with sexual misconduct allegations we hire the guy who had a pedophile on the team?

smokescreen
UnluckyTiger said it the other day … he’s never seen so much smoke and mirrors coming out of the LSU AD.

quote:I don’t think you’re following here. It isn’t a question about whether he could recruit Louisiana, the recruiting cycle comment was in response to the “5 year window”. It’s extremely disappointing if that’s how far we’re looking ahead with this hire in general, but even more so considering the first class of his guys would arrive until well into that (regardless of which state they’re from).

No they’re not. That’s a part of the problem.

“There’s times I feel like I want to be in the dugout, there’s times I’m thankful I’m not in the dugout,” Casey told Tinkle. “I had been a head coach for 31 years and when we got back from the World Series, there was a piece of me that just felt like I’m not sure I can do this at the same level with the same energy that I had done it before, and if I can’t, I’m not going to do it because that’s unfair to the players...
Sure he’s got a great resume and age in itself is not a factor.
But a guy retired three years with this mindset is NOT what LSU needs.

If you think Godwin and Vitello are both "let's just hope" candidates then you're an idiot
Vitello hasn’t won jack shite. He is the definition of “let’s just hope” regarding National title expectations.
Laughable to compare that to someone who has actually won 3.
And yeah, there is a little pressure at the CWS......so I i think he has shown he can handle it.

This feels like a Van Chancellor type hire, but with more previous success.

No way Scott Woodward goes from a home run Kim Mulkey hire, to a complete dud like a Pat Casey. He is a good coach but that's not what LSU needs
Dud isn't the right word. Dude won 3 titles, including in 2018, then he retired on top. That was very recently.
He's an ELITE baseball coach. 62 isn't that old, especially in baseball.
But he's never lived anywhere but Oregon and the whole incestual rape by a player thing.

I swear to god, some of y'all think resume is everything. Is not.
A younger coach will not have that kind of resume.

5 year window
Whoever they hire, if they don't do well, I can guarantee you they won't be around for 5 years. Its all about winning and how soon. It's clear for fans, lsu has to host regionals and supers most years and then make it to the cws every couple years. If that doesn't happen then the next guy will be gone well before 5 years.
