Outside of offensive line, what position group is your biggest concern vs Clemson week 1

I think we can all agree that offensive line is the unit we have the most questions about heading into the Clemson showdown. It isn’t due to lack of talent but simply seeing If the pieces will gel vs a talented Clemson front in a hostile environment . What other position group do you have questions about heading into week 1?

For me I think it’s free safety, Strong is solved with AJ Haulcy but who plays the 2nd safety spot next to him is still a huge question mark as it looks like 3 man battle between spears, Cooley and toviano. I also wonder who starts at corner next to delane do they go with experience in an hostile environment in stamps or do they unleash dj pickett from day one?

With how awful DB play has been the last few years, I won’t believe anything is solved until I see it.

That’s fair esp since they will open the seaosn right off the bat against probably one of the best wr rooms we’ll see all year. I will say Raymond got the absolute most of a corner room that flat out was lacking LSU caliber athletes. Guys like Pickett, Delane and Jackson are what LSU corners should look like with their length and athleticism.

This is the only answer that makes sense if you've watched LSU football since 2019.

#1 concern: O-line
#2 concern: O-line
#3 concern: O-line

A lot of new faces that has never played together going against an excellent Clemson D-line will make a really good offense (especially at the skill positions) look bad.

Clemson returns 5 of their front 7 on defense. They also return their QB, 2 WRs and TE. The Online and DBs will have to step up. I really liked the run schemes we used in the bowl game. Also helps when you have legit deep threats.

I think we finally have the coverage talent to play majority man (Cover 0,1, or 2). This will help out our pass rush. We simply have to play proper technique. We seemed to lose leverage at times in man or not look for the ball.

From a pure talent perspective , this team should not lose more than 1 game. Two losses is realistic given the schedule. Would be nice to end September undefeated.

Even if we leave out offensive line, it's still offensive line.

Other than that, it's the secondary for me. We expect it to better but it's still a question mark. Can Haulcy make the jump to SEC level? Is Pickett ready as a true freshman? Seems like we should be better based on talent and what the transfers did at their previous schools. But until we see them out there together, who knows.

I am worried about LBer. Not necessarily week 1 but behind Weeks, we have 2 decent players in Keys and West Weeks and then a bunch of unknowns. If Weeks stays healthy then we will be good, if he goes down, it could be problematic.

The D (while not great) made huge strides 23 to 24. I think we’re going to see a big leap on that side of the ball again, esp by end of the season.

It really comes down to OL and our ability to run the ball. If we can run the ball successfully & consistently against Clemson we’re going to have an awesome season.

Big if though….

Not a position group per se, but can we stop a QB draw? Havent been able to do that in years it seems.

We are incredibly young at lb behind weeks. Not lacking in talent as I love the guys we got in the 25 class range like Charles Ross and Braker but def unproven.

For sure, last year when we ran into certain wr rooms our lack of true talent in the backend got exploited we just didn’t have the dudes to bump n run vs wr rooms like bama , Florida and even USC. On paper , we absolutely should this year the athleticism and talent is there I trust Corey to coach the cb room up theirs a lot of pieces in that room he has to work with that he didn’t last year. Playing in leverage and winning 50/50 balls will be key Clemson has some young physical stud wideouts on the boundary in Moore and Wesco the corners will be in a fair share of one on one battles vs those guys.

The sec jump is real theirs no simulation for the type of athletes Haulcy will see in this league that he dealt with in the big 12. Good news is his experience and physicality he plays with should help him translate to this league. I do think he’ll be more of a strong safety for us. He’s a good athlete but don’t know if he has the athleticism needed to be a free safety in the sec but I think he’ll be a dog strong safety
