Anybody watching Bama’s WR this year should not think they are a worry about testing folks athletically as in the past. They are FAR from the talented group they used to be.

I agree with your assessment. However, I think we're a step down from how well our secondary covered in man coverage. We seem to be missing that #1 shut-down corner. LSU has always been known to man-up on the outside with ultra-talented corners.

But I must also admit, House has this D in position to make plays at every level. There's rarely a busted coverage and they definitely rally to the ball.

I think Billy O calling the plays has led to them looking worse than they are. He's really been figured out a bit. They are still talented.

I thought Miss St was going to put over 300-400 yards passing on us a few weeks ago. We will definitely see how they stack up against Tennessee in a few weeks
a lot of that is matchups and definitely coaching. When we ran only man under Pelini and refused to make any adjustments, Leach and MSU feasted. Matt House had a great gameplan, made some minor adjustments early, and the players did a great job of executing.

I wanted Raymond gone for years but was hammered on here. I just don’t know if I’m ready to say they are better.

They are already better than what we saw last year or in 2020. We didn’t see much progression from those secondaries beyond a brief blip at the end of last year when the pass rush finally came to life. We are seeing consistent improvement and grasp of the new defensive scheme from week to week now.

I like what coach Steeples and coach Cooks have done so far and you can see they are being coached!

Strange because Ron Cooper was considered a great coach but bad recruiter here under Chief. Then Raymond was an elite recruiter but was never considered a great technical teacher. He was also a protege of Pelini.

This is somewhat of a patchwork quilt we have with holdovers and portal guys, transfers, etc. Yet we are holding together through 4 games of mixed bag opponents and schemes. The stretch run starts in 6 days…and that will tell the tale of this unit, this team and their season.

Raymond had definitely run his course here. He had the ability to recruit and develop great talent but couldn’t seem to help the team. Basically just became an NFL holding tank.

Well, if you are going to use him for 4 games, they should have been games that we needed depth and fresh legs, not mop up duty.

It should also be pointed out that UF’s is now pretty poor.

He hasn’t been healthy and didn’t play until Saturday.

Dude that was more because of scheme. Raymond would be great under this culture with Kelly and the DC.

I guess we'll never know.

You’re right that our secondary looks much better that it has in several years. You’re incorrect in thinking it was Raymond’s fault. We should appreciate what he did at LSU. It wasn’t his fault O couldn’t hire a decent DC once Aranda left.

I was discussing that with a co-worker of mine, there's no confusion, that has to be a testament to the improvement in communication and coaching abilities.

Why does it seem that all the blame for secondary issues the last few years get laid on Raymond when we had dedicated safeties coaches his last few years? Not saying the CBs didn’t have issues, but still.

Because when Aranda left it exposed Corey Raymond as a fraud. The Secondary was obviously poorly coached and Raymond up until that point was being praised as some guru which he wasn’t.

I remember an anonymous SEC coach saying this would be the worst LSU secondary in over a decade before the season started.
It very well may could be. We still have a looooong ways to go

Eta: I personally think our improved Dline and linebacker play (so far) also helps with the secondary. Often the secondary looks much better because other units are also playing better

I liked Raymond but his having Clark knighting for him as lsu’s replacement dc really was it for me. Time to go.

Seriously, these dbs are grown men flying around and making massive hits. Our Oline is wearing down defensive lines and our secondary is laying the wood to opposing offenses and you can physically see the pain they are causing. It’s been a while since LSU has done this
