One thing that is clear in playoff games

Offense is fun to watch but defense still wins championships. LSU and the SEC built its reputation with solid defense which is now lacking and its why we are not dominating the playoffs.

We’re not in the playoffs this year.

2019 LSU and 2020 Bama would have had no problem with either defense last night

its why we are not dominating the playoffs
LSU, Bama, UGA, UGA - then Michigan and now this season. SEC has still been dominant.

I agree here, in 2019 if we wouldn’t have found our defense later in the season I don’t know that we beat Clemson. Also, had we had our defense to start the season we beat Texas and Florida both by 3 TDs each.
Our path to the playoffs is going to be by rebuilding the defense through the secondary and the interior of the front 7. Blitzing QBs is fun, but they don’t have to throw it when they can get 5 on the ground every time or their receivers blow by our safeties like they are standing still.

To be fair, this place would burn to the ground if we had either offense from last night. 2 QBs who were just bad and hardly a speck of athletic ability @ the WR position.
2 better defenses will play tonight. They both have much better offenses. Watch the safeties for both teams tonight. Texas has the best tandem in the country and The Overrated State University has the best one in the country.

I feel like, unless you’re playing an elite offense i would rather a great defense and a good offense.
If Ohio State’s offense stays rolling. i don’t see how Notre Dame Texas keep up.

One thing that is clear…. football quality at the dominant programs has declined. ND, OSU, Penn State, Texas, etc. haven’t gotten better. Bama and UGA have regressed most likely due to portal. They aren’t as deep as they were just a few years ago. The key to winning now is soft schedule, no injuries, and keep players in the program.

You also need to be able to run the ball.
Rushing yard stats of champs in the playoff era:
2023 Michigan - 2536 (169.07 per game)
2022 UGA - 3080 (205.33 per game)
2021 UGA - 2864 (190.93 per game)
2020 Bama - 2385 (183.46 per game)
2019 LSU - 2502 (166.80 per game)
2018 Clemson - 3723 (248.20 per game)
2017 Bama - 3509 (250.64 per game)
2016 Clemson - 2546 (169.73 per game)
2015 Bama - 2999 (199.93 per game)
2014 Ohio St - 3967 (264.47 per game)
So far this year:
Notre Dame - 3161 (210.73 per game
Ohio St - 2367 (169.07 per game)
Texas - 2482 (165.47 per game)
Everyone on this list is at least over 165 rushing. We ran for 1513 yards this year, or 116.38 per game this year. That won't cut it.

These offenses aren't good.

I'd take 44 from PSU in a heartbeat. He is exactly the type of player we need at TE.

The SEC has morphed into what the big 12 used to be. Everybody’s in shotgun all the time instead of using what’s always been the SECs advantage over everybody which is that our big people are more athletic than everybody else’s.

Nah, it’s just a bad QB year.
Posted on 1/10/25 at 12:57 pm to Harlowsmaster
You better be able to run the ball and play stout defense.

if I said “that blue blood team with a middle of the road offense, overrated QB and pretty good defense”
you couldn’t tell me which semifinals team that was.
