That's as bad as it gets?
We had several series like that in 2011. That whole season was draedful. After starting 16-1, we finished the season 20-19 and that included winning 5 of our last 6. Think about that. Through the meat of our schedule that year we went 15-18.

These sort of abysmal slumps, although disconcerting, are not that rare. Look at midseason 2010, and much of the conference schedule in 2011: LSU was swept by Florida, and @ Arkansas and @ Vanderbilt.
Even during the Bertman era it was not uncommon for the teams to go into mind numbing funks: 1988 & 1995, for instance.

Lost too much at once and injuries

Injuries and we are young.
Next year we will have a legit 1-2 punch at pitching and if we can somehow get Hess to stay, a young pitcher steps up, or Gilbert to find some rhythm we will be really good.
We are a talented team that hasn't found its identity yet.

If Hess stays, we will have these guys competing for a starting role on the weekend, and these are all guys that have started games for us:
Zack Hess - Junior
Eric Walker - RS Sophomore
Ma'Khail Hilliard - Sophomore
Aj Labas - Sophomore
Todd Peterson - Junior
Nick Storz - Sophomore
Devin Fontenot - Sophomore
Caleb Gilbert - Senior
Nick Bush - Junior
Then, out of the bullpen, we have returning
Taylor Peterson - Senior
John Kodros - Sophomore
Trent Vietemeir - Sophomore
Matthew Beck - Junior
Out of those guys, the only guy really with a shot of leaving is Hess IMO, and honestly he could possibly come back since he's only a draft eligible sophomore and would still have leverage returning as a junior. Our pitching staff will be experienced and deep with or without him next year.

God I miss you Turtle Thomas

Young team, young pitching and no senior leadership to help right the ship. This team needs a Blair Barbier to get in some of these young guys faces.

Loss a lot of leaders/talent, and very young team.

Eh, Thomas was at LSU from 2000-2006. He walked into a stacked roster when he arrived in 2000. Then we experienced a slow fall to mediocrity each year

Pitching. Lost ALL three weekend starters last year (two drafted/one injured), and now a returning Sr SP is out with soreness. Starting rotation this weekend was SO, FR, FR and FR Labas starts the midweek. Speaks volumes about our experience level, strength/stamina, etc. compared to the competition.
Also guys like Nowak, T. Peterson, Moffit, and Sanders (JUCO types), have not shown up like PM expected.
Hurts too when the hitting/run scoring is inconsistent. P can't make mistakes and fall far behind. Puts more pressure on the staff to 'get it right'.

@SmartestMoran
Josh Smith texted Paul Mainieri last night that he’ll be ready to play this week.
Paul hasn’t seen him today, but thinks he hit in the cages yesterday. May practice some today

Yea I really miss filling the class with guys known to be drafted high and then having to scramble last minute to replace them when they went pro.

So is Florida having an off year? I think they are 14-4 and leading the east.

They did a few years ago when they finished 29-30. Oddly enough, all teams don't have down years at the same time. Crazy how that works
