If this is the best you got, you aren’t helping Verge. Having 5 picks in a high school game is reminiscent of Al Bundy’s 4 TD game for Polk High; knowing the campus map if his best attribute is not real inspiring.

How do you know that he even wanted to go anywheres else maybe he is content on staying where he’s at ! But calling it a bad hire when you have no clue is just dumb at this point

5 ints in 1 game is way harder to achieve than 4 tds. Just like setting a record for most tackles at LSU for 2 years is pretty good too. Dont think any other lber at LSU has beat his records since. Describes what type of player he was. Im just trying to show a touch of what Verge was about when it came to football in general. He loves the game is why I brought up certain points of his career.

He is alot more than what ive mentioned. I mean what you want me to say? The dude has been at LSU since the fall of 1985 when he was 17/18 yrs old. I'd say the "keys" are safe with him.

He’s a Louisiana lifer.

His wife is in a very powerful New Orleans family.

He has been promoted throughout his career.

He has no reason to leave.

Doesn't mean he won't do a good job, either. Why don't you wait and see before passing judgement?

What does his interceptions or athletic abilities have to do with him being qualified to be AD?

Nothing and because he lacks real qualifications we get this drivel to attempt to make people feel better.

just touching on a couple points about his career in hs and college that shows he loves the game of football and that he is a "FOOTBALL GUY" meaning we are in good hands. I'd say that has alot to do when it comes to the search of a new HC in football.

You people don't understand the importance and impact a former player can have as an athletic director especiallyif he has been at the university for 35 yrs in all capacities. He has been there. He isnt a company man like people say.

He was a package deal with the new president. There was never going to be an actual search because everyone has bent the knee up to Landry.

Verge also knows where the bodies are buried

Verge couldn’t get hired in this role at any other P4 school and only got hired to this role because of his time at LSU. Pretty sure that’s the definition of a Company man

Has there been a search for a chancellor, president, and/or AD that was more phoned in than these were? Especially for AD?

Promoting the "one of us" guy certainly can work out, and I'll be rooting for him because he is "one of us."

That also makes it harder to evaluate him objectively. One inherent weakness in the process that led to this point is that Verge will be seen as owing allegiance to a person (or persons) and not to the university. That he owes favors and pledges not to rock the boat or to do anything without getting all the necessary blessings.

He's less expensive than the alternatives. He's also expendable.

I wish him well, but I just don't think a university and athletic department do themselves any favors by not seeking the most qualified candidate through a professional and organized search (for any position).

I'll say this....I know someone who's big in the business of college football and has worked with Verge extensively over the years.

He predicted Verge would be hired as the AD and has had nothing but positive things to say about him.

This guy has worked with most major ADs/coaches in some capacity or another so I trust his judgement.

Give Verge a chance for now and let's see how he handles this football hire.

We have a staff filled with interim coaches
