most on here think that any LSU fan can go and recruit LSU baseball and sign top classes just because it is LSU
Well, I somewhat agree that LSU tends to recruit itself somewhat. There is a lot of history and tradition that makes LSU a premier attraction to any college baseball player, although competition has increased around the SEC and scholarship limits make lesser schools a better option.
HOWEVER.... Cain has done an incredible job of getting a hand on who the top guys will be that are actually signable, and he's getting them to campus. LSU could sign 10 first rounders and then cry every year because they are all going to the MLB. LSU is getting the best non MLB talent and getting them to campus, and that credit goes to Cain.

Yea it’s really difficult to complain about the job Cain is doing. His title is recruiting coordinator, and he seems to be doing a damn good job.

So where will this class likely end up nationally after everything settles out? I know there are a lot of what ifs but what is a good guess?

Somewhere between 1st and last. It will be a good class but it really is impossible to know right now.

As far as I’m concerned the jury is still out.
The pitching haul last year was great, but let’s see how well we do with position players now that we lose three IFers and two OFers.
We may be fine, but we won’t know til next year and we see how the holes are filled.

Turtle did that for yrs, recruiting all stars who never made it to campus.

Gunter's brother and I were in the same platoon in the Marines together for 2 years and we still talk regularly. I didn't ask, but he also never mentioned any plans on Rye transferring or being forced out. Just talked about how much better and confident he is now compared to his first appearance. He's a pretty even-keeled kid who understands his role, and he's excited to stay and continue getting better. We all know things can happen and decisions have to be made with the roster, but he's excited to play for LSU and working towards his degree.

Gunter is going to be good as hell next year. That dude was throwing 95-96 with nasty movement and a nice slider to end the year. He just needs innings.

Gunter has shown real promise of late.

Yes he was actually sitting at LSU today discussing class schedule with Manieri and Cain. Got a call, stepped out, and then came back and told them he was heading to Cleveland to sign.

That would be great but Hal isn't going to just wake up an be a good hitter. IMO instead of playing Cap Code or wherever he's going, he should spend this entire summer with a professional hitting coach, bunting, situational hitting changing his stance & approach everything to get better.

People said the same thing about Kramer Robertson. How about we just let it play out. He is going play in the best summer league possible. I'm sure he is going to get a pretty high level of coaching there as well.

Hey, I'm sure no one wants to improve more than Hal wants to. Just saying maybe better time spent.

Unfortunately,
Hal is worse than last year, which is hard to even think about.
Unlike Robertson, he doesn’t even show potential to improve at the plate. He doesn’t use his lower body whatsoever when hitting and it doesn’t look like he’s made a single adjustment all year long.
I’d rather Gio in the lineup where at least he can put down a bunt and has plus speed, neither of which Hal has proven to do.

For a while this year it seemed like he was improving. He had a better approach and I thought maybe he was starting to figure it out. At least he was working the count and having productive at bats. But in the last few weeks he has regressed back to his form from a year ago.

Roberson was terrible as a freshman, but improved his sophomore year of I’m not mistake. Hal is a sophomore and still sucks at the plate. Maybe Paul wants to sacrifice one bad hitter for defense. He’s done it in the past.

I looked it up earlier today, Robertson went from batting .200 to .232, then jumped up 100 points as a junior.
