Its funny how WW's story has changed. Went from a guy who couldn't coach to a would be savior. He could recruit, but he was not a good strategist or X&O kind of guy. His teams were awful and did not have fundamentals at all. People were trashing him here when he was the coach, but now he's suddenly this mighty titan that can bring LSU BB to the promised land. The guy isn't all that, and he may be better than what we have now, but memory is easily tainted when things are crap right now.

The guy brought our basketball program back to a level it hadn't been at in damn near 40 years.

Thing is this. If Scott Woodward would just swallow one ounce of pride, he could get WW back here and be a fricking slam-dunk hero. It would be a no lose situation. If WW for some reason can't catch lightning twice, I think Woody would genuinely get a pass. But if history is an indicator and the next guy up is a bust, I think he's going to be on a warmer seat unless BK somehow wins a Natty. All respect to Kim Mulkey, the LSU brand seems pretty neutral at this point.

Ya shitty X’s and O’s got McNeese to two straight tournaments. First time ever that McNeese won there conference tournament back to back years. Some of yall are actually retarded. I understand getting aggravated by all the Will Wade post but to act like the dude isn’t a good coach is fricking stupid.

WW and his teams were a ton of fun to watch. He was great in interviews and interacted with fans in ways no LSU MB coach before him had done. That being said he will never coach at LSU again and fans need to move on

The obsession with mediocrity it what is a mystery to me. His teams ended up ranked in the Final AP Top 25 (not the be-all, end-all but a good indicator) once from 2017-2022 (link below). And the SEC averaged only 3 teams in the final poll over that time. The SEC is significantly stronger now with 7 ranked and, depending on whose projections you look at, will have 13-15 teams in the NCAA Tournament. Is Wade better than McMahon? Yes. But he was only average when the conference was below average.

He had his weaknesses. All coaches do. Not sure we'd ever win it all with him, but he had LSU in the big dance every year, which is all the casual LSU basketball fan cares about anyway.

As much as I would love to have Wade back, this much is true. The fans focus should be on getting rid of McMahon and who the next hire should be. Wade is not the only coach who can win here.

30 years. 40 years before Wade was 1978 the beginning of the Brown era that saw 2 FF 2 other Elite Eight and 11 straight tournaments.
