Would prefer that Leavitt not be compared to Nussmeier.

If Leavitt plays like healthy nuss we will be in great shape. Yall gonna realize he was a good qb when he was healthy one day

It’s absolutely insane that people talk about Nuss the way they do

But this is the same place that always felt the need to take shots at LF7 too, so….

Not sure what Hurley is doing now; I think he transferred to Michigan but subsequently left the program. I hope whatever demons are dogging his heels can be put down, and he can get back to trying to play some football.

Do you mean a guy who is capable of, and had some outstanding moments, but also equally capable of backbreaking, unnecessary mistakes, by trying to play "hero-ball"? Often in the same game. Because that was "healthy Nuss".

I was on the Nuss-bus for 4 years. I said he was a better pure passer (though not all-around QB) than Daniels. I thought, and still think, he was hamstrung to some degree by an awful OC (Sloan). But the reality is the 5th year senior Nuss was essentially the same QB as true freshman Nuss. The same bad plays he was making as a freshman were the same bad plays he was making as a 5th year senior. The same unnecessary spin away from pressure into the pocket that often led to bad results. The same forced, unnecessary throws into coverage. The same reaction of being "stunned" when it threw an awful INT was there for 5 years. The same guy who is reluctant to run for an open 1st down, but has no qualms about trying to spin away from a rusher he can't outrun while loosely holding the ball.

He's a guy who will be inserted into a game, often with low pressure because of the circumstances, and make you say "Wow! This guy has something"...only to see him play a few games and realize he's a boom/bust QB who is too inconsistent to consistently beat good competition. NFL GMs/scouts seemed to agree.

Is it?

Record as a starter vs. ranked teams (at the time the game was played)

2-7

Record as a starter vs. power conf. teams who finished the season (reg season) above .500

4-7

I wanted the guy to succeed. I thought he would be great. But the numbers are what they are. Outside of the 2024 Ole Miss game he simply could not beat good/great teams. His entire 5 year career was flashes of greatness that turned out to be just flashes.

I think it's a bad comparison.

Nussmeier tried to make every broken play with his arm. If we have a complaint about Leavitt, it's probably going to be the opposite...he will likely be too quick to run on broken plays.

Leavitt turns into a home run acquisition if Kiffin is able to get him to play from the pocket more in a similar way to year 2 for Daniels.

You’ll still have a group that’ll come in here and argue with what you posted, but you are absolutely right. Whoever can’t agree with your explanation of Nuss needs to take their purple and gold glasses off. He was never even close to great. He was good sometimes with a mix of mostly below average with his constant horrible decision making.

Legit question, what makes him so much worse than the other tier 1 quarterbacks?

Hey Arch!

He was absolute dog shite on the road. His big wins came at home and his one real impressive game was against Vanderbilt. Some considered him a potential first overall pick coming into the season. Florida, UGA, and OSU made him look pedestrian.
