I want a DE that will contain the QB and not crash down on the fake inside running play. That has to be a thing of the past this year.

I want Jack, but this is a bird in the hand type thing. Jack has more issues to overcome.

One other thing I didn’t mention is he tore his pec at ND’s Pro Day

Well that's unfortunate

Usually 6-7 months minimum for RTP and NDs Pro day was 5 months ago

Pyburn probably led the nation in most missed sacks, would have been All SEC if he made those tackles.

This isnt "Kiffen" choosing JT over Jack.

Jack would easily start over JT. Jr is a depth piece, at best.

The Bucs have until next Sunday at 3 to make their final cuts.

Not his game. In fact he only recorded 3 sacks in his 4 year collegiate career.

He's a heavy handed set the edge run stopping DE.. exactly what we need opposite PrinceU/Ross.. who aren't known to he great vs the run. Would also give time for Lamar Brown to develop

I sure hope Lane is good at getting teams to gel and like each other. Team building is going to be massively important in this age of transferring quickly.

Well that’s kinda the whole point of the read option. If the DE stays then the QB is handing it off inside. If he crashes down then the QB pulls it

Very good. Disciplined and smart. Also can hold the point of attack / has the skillset where he doesn’t give up outside leverage or get pushed often / easily, but then it’ll be up to your LBs to make tackles.

ETA: Relatedly, people are posting his (lack of) stats, but I don’t really think they do his play justice. As I mentioned in my first post, he’s not an elite pass-rusher, and similarly he’s not a great block-shedder who’s going to make a ton of tackles/TFLs, but he’s not gonna get bullied and he does a lot of little things well that largely go unnoticed that really help a defense.

I get the sense it wasn’t a major tear but I truly don’t know. These guys are also young early 20s freak athletes (all P4 players are freak athletes compared to gen pop) and I think typical recovery time for injuries is often quicker for them.

But yeah, I think that’s part of the reason he didn’t get any NFL camps/preseason looks. He was still gonna be UDFA / almost certainly cut after a preseason game or two, but he would’ve been in a camp.
