Fwiw I drank with a former Notre Dame and current NFL player this weekend and he told me Brian Kelly “f***** sucks” and is the worst coach he's ever played for

It’s not worth anything. You don’t win as much as Brian Kelly has by being a terrible coach.

Will he be able to win a national championship at LSU? Only time will tell but I can guarantee you he isn’t a bad coach.

They just hired another Bob Davie. An inexperienced coordinator that was popular with players. Maybe it will work out this time, but i wouldnt bet on it.

They're killing it in recruiting. They currently have the #1 class for 2023 and 2024.

It's pretty clear that their recruiting has skyrocketed since Freeman took over.

all of this will even out real soon. For instance, Ohio St just got commitments from the #2, #3, and #9 WRs. All in the top 50, 2 being 5 stars. They got those guys all over the span of 3 days early last week. They went from top 15 to the #2 class just with 3 commits.

Notre Dame will likely finish with a top 10 class, but the year before he got there as a DC, Kelly had the #9 class. As a matter of fact, in the prior 5 classes before Freeman got there, they finished with 3 top 10 classes.

I actually expect LSU to finish ahead of Notre Dame along with UGA, Ohio St, Bama, Miami, TAMU, Texas, and possibly USC.

Lets be real... Notre Dame was stagnant and could never get over the hump while Kelly was there. I think they are genuinely happy to get a fresh start.

probably, but that was more the type of team play instead of actual records. Notre Dame finished with 2 losses or less every year the past 4 years. If 2020 was a full season, they would have gone four straight years with 11+ wins. I would KILL for LSU to be that good on a year by year basis. They even went to the playoffs one of those years.

Truly embarrassed you are so stupid. Les was fired. Kelly VOLUNTARILY left ND as the winningest coach in their history while being ranked No. 5 in the nation. Do you see the difference? No ND fan was calling for him to be fired, esp since they were right on the cusp of the college football playoffs. Most LSU fans were done with Les BEFORE he was fired.

Did he hit his ceiling or did he hit Notre Dame’s ceiling?

That is the question that we won’t know for a few years.
Jamarr Chase, Terrace Marshall, Justin Jefferson, DJ Chark, Jarvis Landry, Odell Beckham, Kayshon Boutte. Leonard Fournette, Derrius Guice, Jemery Hill, CEH. La'el Collins, Trai Turner. Derek Stingley, Tre White, Kristian Fulton, Greedy Williams, Tyrann Mathieu, Donte Jackson, Eric Reid. Devin White, Patrick Queen, Debo Jones. Jaquelin Roy, Maason Smith, Rashard Lawrence.

These are just some of the big time studs that have come out of Louisiana alone in the prior decade. Did not mention stud guys that came out of the state before 2011 recruiting classes or stud guys that went to Bama or Clemson or anywhere else during that time. I also didn't list any of the out of state studs, many of who were all SEC, All Americans, and first round picks.

Kelly hit Notre Dame’s ceiling, not LSU's, and certainly not his own ceiling.

LSU fans celebrated the firing of a guy who had a BETTER winning % (.770 v. .700), actually won a national championship, and never had a losing season. I don't say that because I think Les is a better HC. Just pointing out that the perspective in which fans see a coach is often very different than the outside perspective.

For ND they are "thankful" a guy who could not win a NC is gone with the HOPE the next guy can. They are like LSU fans with Les. The thought was that he plateaued and would never win a championship again. The problem with that line of thinking from a ND perspective is ND hasn't won a championship in nearly 35 years...with 4 different coaches. The last guy, Kelly, was the ONLY one during that time period to even get them close.

On the flip side, LSU is the ONLY program in America that has had each of it's last three HC's win a National Championship.

Given that history, while neither is 100% certain, the odds that Kelly wins a NC at LSU seem FAR greater than those of Freeman winning a NC at ND.

Ehh ill give them that maybe they had some seasons end in disappointment. But he got them to the playoffs. They never had the squads that bama and clemson had, or that LSU had in 19 and they never will.

Every time they get a new coach, they have top 5 preseason hype for a few years then it dies down. I expect that again. There is just a ceiling there.

Marcus Freeman may very well turn out to be a great head coach.

Brian Kelly is already a great HC.

Also, those ND fans are really out of touch, thinking BK was preventing them from winning one.

Josh Pate had the best take on this. This is good for both schools, and both coaches. Everyone got what they wanted, so both schools/fanbases trying to dunk on the other about this doesn't make a lot of sense.

ND has a ceiling. Kelly met it, and so will Freeman.

I don't agree. What if there was an all women's college that started admitting males? Do you think a college like that would have a low ceiling? Because there was one like that and it became a perennial powerhouse in college football. The coach who built them into that was a great man named Bobby Bowden. A great man like that would take ND and win national championships. Kelly looks like a good coach, and I'm happy LSU has him, but the reason he didn't win more at ND was because of the ceiling on ND coached by Brian Kelly, not on ND alone.

The difference is, FSU has a better recruiting base, plays in a Power 5 Conference, and doesn’t have the academic standards/restrictions that Notre Dame has.

This is nothing close to the same situation.
