It's pretty clear that their recruiting has skyrocketed since Freeman took over.

Weren’t they a top 5 team last season.

I mean, that couple with the NIL deals should set Notre Dame up nicely. I mean, the guy may be a great recruiter as well, but let’s not pretend the table wasn’t set for him.

They were #7 for 2022, you have to figure some (maybe a lot) of that is Brian Kelly's doing. They were #9 in 2021. 5 of the top 6 players verbally committed to Notre Dame well before Kelly left. and the one that didn't was CBd to ND by Willfong in October.

In 2013 they were #5 so 2022 is not the best signing class they have had in decades.

If they're crowing about 2023 & 2024 right now then that says all you need to know. All of that is almost meaningless right now. What it looks like in November will be a lot closer to how it finally shakes out.

Fwiw I drank with a former Notre Dame and current NFL player this weekend and he told me Brian Kelly “f***** sucks” and is the worst coach he's ever played for

I have first hand knowledge that we’re not at all happy at the time.

I think some of the posts are ridiculous, but, if I was a Notre Dame fan, Kelly leaving wouldn't be the end of the world. He hit the ceiling there -- win 10+ games, get destroyed in the Playoffs. They were never a true national title contender. They knew that. Something new is, arguably, what they needed.

Maybe it'll be a hire that works out well for both...it doesn't have to be one works and the other fails.

That's never won a game as a head coach.

ND fans are whistling past the graveyard.

Yeah they are so happy to lose the winningest coach in ND history for a guy who has never been a head coach and was beaten by Okie Lite in his 1st game as a head coach.

ND fan at my gym, older guy. He never was a BK fan even before we took him away and was happy LSU hired him too. It seems to be a bit of a common theme.

You have no idea if he’s a solid coach or not. He’s literally never been a head coach in CFB.

LSU just fired a guy who was a better recruiter than Freeman because he had no clue how to run a program.

ND wasn’t going to win a title with Kelly. They’d peaked so I’m sure they are excited for the future. Make no mistake though, 2-3 years without a title and the seat under Freeman will be warm.

I’m not sure Kelly will win a title for LSU either, but he came down here because he wants one. He clearly saw the ceiling at ND and decided to try to win a title before he retires.

Also, the man knows how to build and sustain a program. He’s realistically got 5-6 years here to try and win a title, and if he doesn’t win it all he’ll leave the program in much better shape for the next guy.

And we have 1st hand knowledge that LSU embarrassed ND by taking your coach. You boys just won't stop whining and let it go.

Did he hit his ceiling or did he hit Notre Dame’s ceiling?

That is the question that we won’t know for a few years.

And grant it, he has time to get better, and a small sample size in one game, but he was definitely over his skis.
