Noticed something interesting during the basketball game

I noticed that when the ball was bouncing around the rim, offensive players frequently tried to tip it in, and the announcers commented positively as if it was good play. These routine plays were the exact same kind of tip ins as the one that won the Kentucky game. No screaming about the cylinder or anything of the kind. I guess it’s only a problem if it’s the game winning basket over Kentucky.
Go Tigers.
Go Tigers.

Bingo. One of KBW looked identical. They should scrap offensive basket interference from the rule book.
Ball on rim, ball in cylinder, should both be good. If defense doesn’t like it, box out.

It was nice hearing unbiased ESPN commentating as well.

Agreed. It's one of the dumbest and most counterintuitive rules in sports.

Oh really. And what happens when players start blocking raining 3 point shots? Or, you are talking about after the initial shot hits the rim first?

Thats exactly what I said after the game. That's extremely common.

The offensive basket interference rule is similar to the old football rule that a player could not help push or pull the ball carrier further along. This rule should be changed for the same reason. If three guys want to dunk a ball at the same time, then let them.

Why would a player try to block their teammate's shot?

Agreed. It’s a dumb rule to begin with. Why penalize the offense for being agressive in going after a missed shot ??

Rest assured if Kentucky had made that tip no one would have mentioned it at all. The sports writers and espn would not have spoken about it or showed replays 3 days later. And no one would be talking about reconsidering replay usage.

I also noticed the bald uga fan doing jumping jacks the entire game at courtside.

It’s never questioned during the middle of the game.

I’d probably join him in doing Kung fu maneuvers and imploring the crowd to join in
Then I’d go to dawg vent and bitch about concessions

You can dunk but not tip a ball in. WTF.

Most of the nation views Louisiana as a shithole, thus LSU seems "dirty" to them. So, they naturally root against LSU, and it has consequences.
Football:
LSU wins agreed-upon BCS college football championship, gets called "co-champions" with USC because the AP poll votes USC #1.
LSU gets unfairly rematched in the BCS title game based on the invented criteria of an "eye test", and the BCS finally gets scrapped for the Playoff System after a lopsided game.
Baseball:
LSU shatters the home run record, playing what gets called "gorilla ball", and the NCAA changes the bats in baseball to neutralize power-hitting teams.
LSU shocks unstoppable Miami with a walk-off home run in a one-game College World Series championship game, which subsequently gets changed to a three-game series.
Basketball:
LSU beats blue blood #5 Kentucky at Rupp Arena on a tip-in, there will now be a rule change to video review goal tending calls.
And just for good measure:
The New Orleans Saints, at the peak of its franchise success, gets embroiled in a faux "bounty gate" scandal. The NFL admits multiple teams are guilty, but the Saints get singled out "to make an example of" and are gutted, preventing what could have been a Patriots-type dynasty. No other team is penalized at all.
The Saints get robbed of a Super Bowl appearance based on the worst no-call in NFL history.
Now, look, some of these changes might have been needed, but it always seems like its LSU's success that finally brings the momentum to implement changes. That's not a coincidence.

Why does everyone keep talking about the ball being “in the cylinder” against UK? It was partly outside the cylinder, so not goal tending. All this debate is moot IMO. Move on.
