Lane has some things that fit really well with LSU. One is an offensive approach that has some NFL to it, identifying mismatches. Then he has also been heavily influenced by Saban, who was core to LSU becoming what Cowherd names as one of the 6-8. But that's not just guaranteed. No playoff berth since 2019-20.
As far as hijinks, I don't know what exactly he's talking about. He was going by what was decided in court on the eligibility issue.

I believe he meant it as a compliment. He was saying that LSU was one of a few schools that don't need gimmicks in order to be watchable. Like he said, he watches LSU simply because of the "talent."

First off, cowherd knows zilch about college football. He covers it because he has to. I'd be surprised if he watch 5 games a year.
Given what he's said, LSU has been super for 5 years now. I don't think lane is trying a schtick. I think he's bring an attitude that other coaches have lacked.
Those top 6 teams he's talked about, UGA, UT, ND, Ohio State, and throw in Bama...have all gone long periods of time without winning anything. Heck UT and ND are 20+ years without an NC.
Even the biggest programs need an edge. Maybe not for viewership, but to win it all.

What Colin doesn't acknowledge here is that for whatever reason, players love Lane and his schtick. He's one of the last celebrity coaches and kids want to play for him. So I'm good with it.
