I’m concerned with the safeties.

For some reason I have the utmost confidence in AJ Haulcy to be a STUD. that would mean just getting average play out of Spears and/or Cooley would be sufficient at the other safety spot.

I can see a path to a 6-2 record in the conference, which should secure a playoff spot at 10-2. However, for some reason, LSU is starting the season on the road against a top-five team that has seven projected first-round draft picks. That decision is incredibly stupid and could result in an 8-figure frick up.

I like your optimism, but a returning QB is a narrow view. How quickly will the Oline gel? Will we be a good tackling team this year? Will we limit the big plays that plagued us the past couple of years?

I have confidence in our offense and think our defense will largely decide if 10-2 is the floor.

How is Florida getting overlooked?

1. It's at home.

2. The fans were revolting to have Napier fired until the two HOME wins vs. LSU and Ole Miss. While those games may be the start of a great run for Florida, overall, they represent significant ouliers in the Napier era. At the end of 2022 South Carolina got hot and beat No. 5 Tennessee followed by No. 8 Clemson to end at, to that point otherwise mediocre season. There was excitement entering the next season with a returning QB (Rattler). They went 5-7.

Napier is 4-8 in road games and 0-5 in road games vs (then) ranked opponents. Even with a loss to Clemson, LSU should be ranked when they play Florida.

Could Florida be a good team? Yes
Am I willing to crown them and Napier good after two wins in an otherwise unremarkable 3 seasons? No

If we beat Clemson, I think we will run the table.

Same SEC schedule as last year with home/away flipped.

QB is the single most important position in all of team sports. LSU doesn't just have a "returning QB". They have a QB with the most passing yards and 2nd most TD passes last season of all returning QBs. Almost all of LSU's championship caliber teams have had one common trait...experience at QB. Mauk, Flynn, Burrow. The best offenses all shared that same trait. Davy (2001), Mettenberger (2013), Daniels (2023)

Obviously that is an unknown. But IMO, the biggest reason for the long plays was horrible safety play. Those guys turned what should have been 8-12 yard gains into 30-40 yard gains. Burns, who was constantly out of position and overly aggressive is gone. So is Ryan, who never saw a collision he didn't want to avoid. If this safety play is even just moderately better this season then LSU should have a decent defense.

10-2 with the only losses being to Clemson and Alabama should lock us a spot into the CFP.

Yes but we have Clemson and we have Florida and Florida will beat Georgia this year. Will also know if Texas is any good or not week one even though they're on the road against Ohio state they're playing basically a new team if they can't beat Ohio State week one in Texas is overrated again.

AJ Haulcy

Honestly I forgot about him. You’re right. So that being said we might be solid across the board in the secondary.

Blake Baker has potential here to have a monster year and he might get plucked for a HC job elsewhere.

No excuses.

BK must be fired
Oh, you can bet your sweet arse there will be a plethora of excuses spewed out by that intrepid clique of Pumptards, Cheerleaders and Mediocrity Lovers! The only area of the team that's not CFP level is OL and that's BK's fault as well. Hopefully, Sloan will be running his version of "Da Joe Brady Offense" where Nussmeier is getting the ball out of his hand quickly. (So the OL doesn't have hold their blocks very long a la 2019 with Burrow) and hopefully Atkins can show Croom how to produce a Running Game. (It's pretty pathetic when you have to hire a Coach to show the OL Coach how to run block effectively, which also goes right back to BK. )

I hope this doesn't happen. We have recruited well on the d line for 26.

If we miss the playoffs, it will be 100% on BK. There won't be excuses. However, he won't be fired. It won't matter what the record is. He isn't leaving. Such is the stupidity of 10 year contracts.

Sure Vandy's QB is returning and he's a nuisance....but they'll have less talent overall than last year. And our D will be better than last year. The schedule is in our favor boys.

Playoffs or bust. A win at Clempson (dont think they will) can set the tone for the season.

Not sure why you find this funny. Tennessee had 3 losses last year and made it. If LSU loses 3 road games (Clemson, Bama, Ole Miss) we’re still in the playoffs and maybe even host a first round game.

ChatGPT posits that Texas and Georgia have the best chance of winning it all. It thinks Clemson will beat us with the caveat that whichever team wins makes the playoffs.
