Just curious. Why did Cotton not get a save in the game last night? He pitched 2 innings, and when he went in we had a 4 run lead. Is it because the lead was more than 3 runs, or because the offense exploded for 6 more in the ninth?
Thanks

The lead was it. It was not a save opportunity when he hit the mound

Dude is a closer, he must get a save every time he enters a game, right?

The official scorer shall credit a pitcher with a save when such pitcher meets all four of the following conditions:

He is the finishing pitcher in a game won by his team;

He is not the winning pitcher;

He is credited with at least 1/3 of an inning pitched; and

He satisfies one of the following conditions:

-He enters the game with a lead of no more than three runs and pitches for at least one inning
-He enters the game, regardless of the count, with the potential tying run either on base, at bat or on deck
-He pitches for at least three innings

Thanks for the clarification. I thought he might qualify even though there was a 4 run lead since he pitched more than one inning. For all the rest of the rant areas, I apologize for not searching, but have been unavailable since the game ended.
