I agree with all of that.

And now understanding the we don’t qualify for the B1G academically, we don’t really have any other good options.

I can basically delete this post since learning new info making this infeasible imo.

But that said, my original point was to start making plans to leave down the road. As in our feelers out, try and cut the best deal possible. But that would be the B1G and probably only them. And we don’t qualify academically.

I actually think LSU should leak that they intend to negotiate their release from the league. LSU should lean fully into it. They want to play around with our membership? They can just write us a check and we'll agree to divorce. Get ABC/ESPN/Disney in on the matter before that meeting even happens. I hardly think LSU is going to get booted, but the chance isn't 0. Use that. Pre-empt their meeting.

One thing is for sure, if I'm LSU leadership, I'm taking phone calls from other conferences, and letting everyone know about it.

The best thing to come out of this would be a change in academic direction with the goal being AAU invitation. That would entail, a major change in emphases, in funding, and a coordinated multipronged process. Probably looking at a 5 to 7 year timeframe.at the earliest, and likely twice that. But the commitment might well open doors to other opportunities if something like this were to occur again. Plus, it would be good for the school.

It would be funny if that was the end result of the past 2 weeks

Purely an academic focus to make LSU a real school so we can potentially join the Big10 in the future

You are claiming victory for Sankey. But Sankey still has a lawsuit against, the school AD, the school president, and the Louisiana AG.

How can a commissioner of a league be considered successful if they are attempting to tear down a charter member of it's conference? That's not a win, that's a big fat failure in leadership.

Sankey is unhinged and deserves nothing but ridicule and to be fired.

LSU didn’t do this

I say frick no considering or shopping UNTIL they demand DEMAND anything from us at all. The second they talk sanctions or penalties or the May we have voted then frick no do your worst and we will make things happen.

Now if they give us specific examples and and site things that lsu has done that no one else has done or tried to do also and it is clearly stated in the rules and bylaws then sure we play ball. Unless they can articulate what we did wrong that was clearly stated against policy and the tro/5for 5 ruling then they have nothing.

We leave SEC what happens?

As SFP says, Big 10 won't take us and it would NOT be a good fit.

Big 12 might but let's face it, no rivalries. Maybe if Texas A&M or Arkansas was in it but they are not. ACC? Might work but of course the prestige would go down. Let's not forget the other sports. Travel budgets would skyrocket.

As for the indy route, romantic thought but doesn't work. We are not Notre Dame. Can't command the same tv contract. Since the CFP does not reward SOS, a playoff capable team gains nothing by playing us. No one wants to be Texas. We wind up playing games our fans hate.

In other words, we lose a lot if we leave SEC.

Come on now. The case was not LSU's and the "rules" came after the case was brought.

We absolutely should NOT leave the SEC. This is our conference; it's the most storied conference in American sports history and we're one of the main reasons it matters. The same goes for Bama, Auburn, Georgia, Florida, and Tennessee. Hell...even Ole Miss, MS State, and Kentucky count too.

A few women and historically effeminate men in SEC leadership roles whined real loud, but they're the problem not the solution. We know why they're sad and angry, but that doesn't mean LSU should flinch.

We don't throw away 100 years of tradition just because during recess the rules changed and a couple SEC Hall Monitors got their feelings hurt. We stand our ground and stay here because we helped build the damn thing from the beginning.

Some things are worth fighting for in life, and LSU staying in the SEC is one of them.

That suit is only to establish enforcement authority. He may lose that, but I was referencing the actual conflict with LSU. Sankey won that.

The federal suit isn't directly about LSU. We just created the avenue for the SEC to try to stomp on rogue state courts invalidating their enforcement authority.

But answer this one question for me. How can LSU ever remotely trust the SEC again?

What's to stop the SEC refs from calling 30 penalties against LSU when we play Bama or Tennessee and making sure we don't win those games?

What's to stop the SEC from having their refs or officials do this to LSU teams in all sports?

Loyalty is to LSU first, not the SEC.

Marriage is something worth fighting for as well. Yet sometimes a marriage is just broken beyond repair.

LSU has never been in the good ole boys club in the SEC. Now we are the enemy of the SEC.

Yes it's worth fighting for, but I don't see how you repair the relationship. To me the LSU-SEC relationship is fundamentally broken at this point and is beyond repair.

Even if the SEC doesn't expel us, I think if you're LSU you have to be looking at all options. You have to have at least an informal chat with the Big 10 to see if there's any chance they would consider LSU. You have to chat with all the conferences and see what your options are.

All of that sounds great in theory but unless Sankey is removed, I don’t see a situation where this is actually repaired. This is like an example of arguing with your spouse. As soon as the argument becomes physical, the relationship is over.

That said, we don’t have any good options other than a couple of lesser conferences accepting us. So options are limited.

I must have completely missed where LSU has sued the conference.

The SEC and Greg Sankey have been thr instigators this whole time and are the ones who have constantly escalated the situation.

Sankey should be fired after another example of poor leadership

First off: what is the SEC? It's literally us and other schools; we are an equal part of its existence and have as much say so as any other member. Sankey is hired by us as much as he is by the other schools.

Every game is televised; although Patrick Peterson was in bounds, this ain't gonna happen in every single game in every sport.

This isn't like marriage; marriage is between two people--not 16 people...unless BYU is involved.

That's horribly inaccurate and catastrophe syndrome; one of our former HEAD FOOTBALL COACHES was the SEC Commissioner for nearly twenty years (Bernie Moore for those who don't know...there's a track and field stadium next to Tiger Stadium some of you might've seen before).

I think the right answer is cooler heads prevail for a few months and then after football season ends Sankey finds a new career somewhere else.

Says who? LSU isn't lesser.

I'm not okay with the thought of being dictated to by Ole Miss or Tennessee (what a weird flex from a non-rival, by the way). I'm definitely not okay with being told what to do by anyone from Texas A&M, Texas, Oklahoma, or oh..hey Missouri...how long you been standin there? I forgot you're a real place. What? You want us to leave? Oh...okay...cool.
