Chase obviously hurts, but adding Gilbert as a receiving threat is an upgrade over Moss. Marshall was our top TD threat when healthy and he's ready to shine. Boutte presents a very shifty threat, McMath can step in and Palmer has great upside.

Shelvin was a monster, but Ika is a plug and play replacement. Guillory should be able to rotate in as well. We are young, but deep at DT.

Vincent was hot and cold, but shined down the stretch. Stingley has his side locked and the other side and slot are in the capable hands of Flott, Ward and Ricks.

Certainly big hits, but the cupboard isn't bare.

Chase I understand but Shelvin probably dropped to a 2nd day draft guy with his decision and Vincent maybe a 3rd or 4th rounder just because of his speed. Good luck to them all and as you mentioned a ton of young talent so let's geaux.

Shelvin can be 1st round with serious work put in.........but, that’s the rub.

His struggles with weight are well known and without a non-paid coaching staff, he has obstacles. Now, I am sure his agent will hire a training group to ride him like a wet blanket but it not the same as O.

I've already reserved this season now as a way to prepare for 2021 with all the young guys getting a lot of playing time

Came into camp 40 lbs overweight and his work ethic has been questioned in the past. Shelvin has the talent but his stats don't really jump out at you. This was his year to show the NFL he had put his weight issues behind him and his work ethic was in the right place. Late 2nd rounder or early 3rd with no more film because he opted out.

Shelvin received bad advice and took it.

Shelvin was probably a second day guy anyways.. He just hasn’t done enough yet.

Same here. This is going to pay dividends next year. Even without covid 2020 was not likely to be our year

Could have been first imho the big man can move and you don't find big guys like him with quickness. Oh well we shall see come draft day.

I 100% agree with you. He’s got what it takes but so do a lot of other people who haven’t struggled with weight and quitting on their teams and who probably also have way better stats. Not saying stats are any indication of how good shelvin is I’m just stating the facts.. there are NT/DTs with better numbers.

Oh come one man. He is great and I think we will be fine, but you can’t honestly believe this. Chase was the #1 WR last year in the country.

It was Terrace Marshall. While Chase and Jefferson would go on to break program and SEC records, it was actually Marshall that looked like he was on pace for an historic season. Through those three games, Marshall hauled in 16 receptions for 229 yards and six touchdowns.

For comparisons, Chase had 10 receptions for 168 yards and one touchdown while Jefferson added 19 receptions for 387 yards and four touchdowns. It was Marshall’s redzone threat that made him a danger all season long. But the injury bug reared it’s ugly head for the sophomore.

quote:

A fractured foot suffered in a win over Vanderbilt knocked Marshall out for four weeks. The injury wasn’t the first or even a second for Marshall. As a senior in high school, a devastating leg injury forced him to miss the rest of his high school career and hindered his freshman campaign at LSU in 2018.

Marshall would return from the foot fracture in 2019 against Auburn and still put up some pretty fantastic numbers, finishing the season with 46 receptions for 671 yards and 13 touchdowns.

Yeah, I honestly believe this.

I believe that Marshall was leading the country in TDs at one point. Maybe as of the Vandy game....but that is a guess.

2020 is an * season. I see all this as a positive to get our young guys plenty of quality experience to make another run at the natty in 2021 with a senior QB in Brennan.

Keep telling yourself this. It will make the offseason better for you. But this is way too much talent to overcome and still contend for the sec championship (We will not). LSU is probably going to be pushed around on defense. And while we have plenty of talent to replace Chase, we don't have a receiver who can be counted on to dominate the best corners in college.

Marshall was the #1 WR in the nation coming out of HS. Gilbert is the highest rated TE since 247 started rating and is considered a WR with a TE body (referred to as the next "Megatron"). Boutte was the #2 rated WR in the nation and gives us a WR that is more shifty than what we had even with the big 3 last season.

Experience and the shortened schedule may very well wreck the season, but I don't buy that we don't have the talent to be a contender. From a talent AND experience standpoint I see 2021 as a more realistic NC run though.

It just socks to lose 3 more experienced players and 2 guys with first round potential.

We’re not sunk but we’re not better for it.
