So, cater and set a precedent

Nah

Saving face would be to drop this ludicrous BS and handle it like a grownup

agree, and I think it's perfect for Kiffin to send the message that we honor our word. JD is clearly being petulant here, but if we can diffuse the situation, and keep on friendly terms with our most recent Heisman winner, we should.

At what expense? LSU officially does not retire numbers. Do we put one petulant person above the institution and all others who came before him who deserved to have their number retired?

If LSU capitulates to Daniels’ temper tantrum, it’s encouraging bad behavior from others.

I don’t think winning the Heisman while going 9-3 and then not playing in the Reliaquest bowl is worthy of a statue. Winning the Heisman while going 15-0 and a national championship? Absolutely

No, can't build him statue or retire his jersey. We can't use his NIL. This situation is so dumb.

Pretty sure LSU has a policy to not retire numbers.

They retire jerseys….

They’ll put him on the circle next to Burrow.

If a statue is in the works…. I’d assume Burrow gets one. Daniels doesn’t, he didn’t win the SEC or Natty.

Just make sure we put 10-3 and relinquish bowl sell out on the statue.

I think it’d be best for LSU to stay quiet about it and see how Jayden handles it from here. It’s his image on the line, not the other way around.

LSU doesn't have to do anything. Promises made by a defunct regime have no bearing on the current regime, especially when LSU owns the right to use, retire, or trademark and can officially license the likeness of that jersey., not Daniels or his Mommy

LSU doesn’t HAVE to do jack-shite.

Good thing we have another one, then. His name is Joe Burrow.

I agree 100%. I know how players want to keep a number, but if I was Pickett, there's no question in my mind on what i would do. I would be the stand up guy, for Daniels, LSU and Kiff.and not wear # 5. That's just me.

Under LSU’s guidelines, this is the rule since 2007. The only one not eligible to be in rotation is Cannon’s

This is correct. In 2023, the Heisman was a constellation prize in a disappointing season.

If they weren't at least thinking about retiring the numbers, why hasn't 5 been worn since JD and why hasn't anyone worn 9 since Burrow? Also, spare me the no one asked bs. (Not op specifically) Single digit numbers are a commodity for these kids. You know damn well they have been requested. LSU needs to be a little more transparent with this kind of thing, as to prevent this stupid arse shite from happening in the future.

Personally, im against retiring numbers. This is football. You have 100+ players a year. Retire the jerseys, build a statue, whatever, but leave the numbers.
