No. 5 Situation: LSU should do this

Tell JD that we've got to allow Pickett to use 5 because Kelly regrettably promised him but commit to retiring both 5 and 9 and building the bronze statues as soon as Pickett leaves. We'll eventually have statues of him and Burrow and will retire their numbers anyway, and it would allow JD a way to back out of this while saving face.
We need to keep JD close if we can. Heisman winners are good for recruiting.

frick JD . Kissing his arse will only make this problem worse for future players. You’re basically telling them it’s ok to be a spoiled brat.
The entitlement these players have is off the charts insane.

We have JB9. frick JD.
Maybe DJ5 will be our next Heisman winner and we press on. A risk I'm willing to take.

If future players win the Heisman for us, we can put up with their bullshite.

Or, we do like everyone else does and retire the jerseys, not the numbers.
When you retire the jersey, you retire the one with the name on the back.
Put 20, 9, and 5 back in circulation.

While going 9-3? Woohooo!
No player is worth this type of BS. It’s toxic and is not the type of attitude you want in a locker room.

Uh, how many numbers are we going to take out of the rotation? Retiring numbers is ridiculous.

LSU is not the ones in the bad light here. The national consensus is that JD really screwed up with this. I think it’d be best for LSU to stay quiet about it and see how Jayden handles it from here. It’s his image on the line, not the other way around.

Nothing against JD. I appreciate his time at LSU, but if he wants to part ways over giving another young man the opportunity to wear a jersey number, then they should go separate ways. LSU and JD will both be very successful with or without each other.

Speaking of spoiled, you must be so young that you have no memory of the days when LSU had only one Heisman winner 60 years before. We've been fortunate enough to have two recently, but having an LSU player win the Heisman with any record is an enormous boon for the program.

Im 37. And in that 60 year drought we we managed to accomplish all our goals without a heisman winner or even candidate. 4 sec title 2 nattys and played in another. Thats all that matters in a team sport.. Idgaf about producing individual award winners.
You wanna be all about yourself, then go play golf or tennis.

Why would JD5 get a bronze statue?
Winning a Heisman is not a reason to give a statue for a player.
I'm not sure a player should be getting statues at all. If they did what Burrow did, then maybe. Shaq has been a great ambassador for LSU and is always showing up to games and promoting LSU in lots of ways....so I can understand that.
If we throw out statues for winning the Heisman and Titles then I expect Miles and Coach O to get statues, right? LOL.

Issue the kid 05 and be done with it.

No frick that we have a policy we don’t retire numbers we retire jerseys now.
Also Joe and Jayden aren’t on the same shelf. Joe Burrow went 15-0 won a natty and sec title and had the most dominant season arguably in history. Our 2019 defense was also a clown show until the last 4/5 games of the season that year. When Texas and Bama were scoring Joe matched them.
Jayden went 9-3 in his Heisman year, 0-3 in big games and 0-3 answering the bell when the D let us down. LSU put a ton of effort into getting him the Heisman and it was a down year.
9 should be treated differently than 5 because they are different. Eventually both jerseys will get retired and put up next to Casanova and Cannon

This is kind of dumb. JD didn't when a championship, but he did win the Heisman. If you use this logic. What did Shaq win at LSU ?
I do think JD is in the wrong and if a kid wants to wear 5 then it should be LSU's decision not JD's.

We don’t retire numbers. LSU isn’t taking it in on his NIL. All of this is retarded.
He’s mad because a former employee made a promise to override LSU policy, something he wasn’t authorized to do. Be mad at Kelly, not the institution.

Instead we are going to bow down to HS kids when they make demands such as jersey numbers?...you understand what really happened here ...LSU didn't want to give him 5, but were forced to because he was threatening to leave...that is the real story, but iof course they can't say that publicly since he is a starting CB who was a 5 star recruit...if it were Sage Ryan wanting 5 after his freshman year, there would have been no discussion, promise or not during recruiting..... Maybe LSU needs to make all these recruiting promises public so the posters hold them accountable

LSU has done nothing wrong. JD chose this path. Put accountability where it should be.

I agree, and I think it's perfect for Kiffin to send the message that we honor our word. JD is clearly being petulant here, but if we can diffuse the situation, and keep on friendly terms with our most recent Heisman winner, we should.
