It will take at least $ 4 million to get Kim or Staley but neither will be at LSU.

Exactly. Will be interesting to see who Woodward gets

I think you look at some of the top assistants at your established/elite programs or someone who is winning at a high level at a mid major.

I'd rather take a chance than hire a retread.

And what, increase the attendance from 50 people to 300? Frick that, save the money.

So we should cancel the entire program?

I didn't say go pay a coach 2 million to come here.

Right they both have a established program! I wonder how Matthew Mitchell former Kentucky coach health is, need to call him up ASAP! But I’m pretty sure LSU would may have to hire a woman with all the stuff that is going on.

The head coach at Troy might be a solid option

Mitchell isn't coaching anytime soon. He stepped down to focus on his health after his brain injury. If he thought he had a shot at coming back a year later, he could have stepped away for one year instead of 'retiring' right away.

The Florida St coach took a year of absence due to the health of her parents.

While understandable, all the Summitt disciples are mediocre as evidenced by their coaching tree. Miss St found that out very quickly last season after McCray came in and sunk a top 10 program pretty quickly.

Part of making hires is taking a risk. People saw Nikki as young and energetic coach with promise based off her short stint at UCLA and coaching along Summitt for years.

I don't think there is a perfect formula for making these hires. I don't think anyone thought Nikki would be this atrocious on the recruiting trail while at LSU. Hopefully we have better luck this time

Spoken like a knuckle dragging, mouth-breathing cave man

Cancel track and field; swimming and diving; gymnastics; softball; men's basketball some years; etc. Cancel every sport that is non-revenue producing and eliminate hundreds, if not thousands of athletes who have obtained a college education via athletic schollies or perhaps, you'd just want to take that opportunity away from female athletes?! Title IX ain't going nowhere!

No one is, or should be saying to eliminate the sport. But paying a WBB's coach a huge salary is an INSANELY stupid financial investment.

While we like to pretend the LSU athletic department is some altruistic endeavor to allow college students to participate in sports the reality is it is a multi-million dollar entertainment business with several distinct "product lines" (i.e. sport programs) under its umbrella. The reality is only three (and at most schools only two) of those product lines are profitable. And it is ok to continue to operate the multiple other sports, men's and women's, even at a loss as long as your profitable sports remain profitable. But if you start unnecessarily significantly rising your expenses in the unprofitable sports you start to take away money from your profitable endeavors...which could lead to decreased profits. Particularly now more than ever with the revenue stream of ALL universities' athletic depts being destroyed (hopefully temporarily) because of the pandemic.

For example, there are people on here daily clamoring to fire the current baseball coach in order to hire a new, great, BB coach, presumably at a significant salary. With the money baseball usually brings in it is probably financially justifiable (to a certain point) to do so. But how much money are you going to have on hand to do so if you have now increased even further your significant expense in WBB with almost assuredly no increased ROI?

Now, you are hamstrung in making a change in the BB program...which could lead to decreased revenue and loss of profit because the program is struggling...which makes it less desirable for the customers/fans to support. You've now taken your once profitable product line in to the red all because you unnecessarily increased your expenses in a sport that no matter how much you spend with never be profitable.

It would be racist, sexist, and homophobic to not hire Pokey back

Well shite, I wish she would have stepped down a week ago. Vandy just made a home run hire with Shea Ralph, the UConn assistant and we missed out.

But yeah, Nikki looked like a home run hire a decade ago. She definitely lost some fire somewhere along the way.

Let’s see what Woodward can do.
