But P.A. announcers are by definition of the national organization (NASPAA) non-partisan and are not cheerleaders.
that doesnt make sense. have you never heard Borne scream so and so "scccoooooooooreeeeeesssssssss" after each td?

My mom is dead but I would have no concern about Dixon around any woman they are perfectly safe!

he was fine
First, as one of the few dozen people who attended most of the basketball home games, I don’t think he did good enough of a job to warrant a promotion. “He was fine” is not good enough for one of the best venues in college sports.

I for one support this choice.

And second?

You didn’t hurt my feelings at all. You have sat here on two threads and bashed Dixon because you don’t like his dad. It’s actually very funny.

I’ve got no problem with Dixon, but I’m not necessarily surprised at the personal attacks on him in this thread, he’s probably not either.
My critique is that I don’t think he has the voice for it. I didn’t think he was very good at play by play for Catholic, but who gives a fark, it’s high school football. For the voice of Death Valley, I think it’s a miss.

Very much a nepo hire. Especially considering they probably got some legit candidates with over 40 applicants.
Did LSU actually advertise for the position and interview the candidates?
LSU (Damon Talley) never dId for TGBFTL Director position. Ever since Linda Moorhouse abruptly left for Illinois and they gave the job to Roy King out of necessity, it's been all "Mike Archer Defensive Coordinator-Promote the current Assistant" BS hires..........

LSU did interview multiple candidates and I heard that three finalists had scripted “try-outs” in Death Valley. I think this position pays something like $250 per game, so it isn’t a super lucrative position. I’m willing to give the guy a chance and see if he’s got what it takes to add to the enjoyment of being at a game.

You seem very eager to stick up for him and Dixon. Have you actually ever heard Dixon call a game because I have and your going way out on a shaky limb. The majority of CHS people who know him and have heard him call games don't like him and think he is a joke.
You keep saying this, but fail to recognize what he does for CHS is the radio play-by-play…which is not the job he’s been hired for by LSU.
He was the PA announcer for the men’s basketball games last year. Surely if he was so awful it was evident to all it would have been brought up. It wasn’t. Most didn’t even realize he was the PA announcer. That’s because he was fine in that role. I can’t recall speaking with any basketball fan who said “OMG! The PA announcer is awful!”
You are clearly adamantly opposed to the hire. That’s fine. But I ask again, what makes him so bad as a Public Address announcer…a job he’s already held for LSU? There has to be something, right?

Alt26 as several others have said he doesn't have the voice for the job. Secondly Sid Crocker and Dan Borne were are good guys. As numerous people who know Dixon including myself have said on here and even you have said you agreed with them he is a douche. I think and believe most here as well based on the overwhelming votes against him do not believe the voice of Tiger Stadium should be a douche!

He’s not going to be the play-by-play broadcaster. He’s the PA announcer. Just like he was at the basketball games last year…and at no point was he “snobby and arrogant” to the opposing team or the referee.
If LSU made a shot he announced it with enthusiasm…like every other home PA announcer is America. If the opponent made a shot he neutrally announced the name of the guy who made the shot. If there was a foul, on either team, he simply announced it without any condescension.
In the midst of the argument of what a PA guy should be, there is one certain truth. The PA guy should NOT act like he is part of the show and think that part of the reason that people come to the game is to hear him ( I am looking at YOU, LSU women's basketball PA guy)
If Dixon does not act like an arse like he does on the Catholic High games, he will be fine. He is decent at men's basketball and softball and will probably be ok with football. It just leaves a sour taste in your mouth when you have the underlying feeling that he got the job based on who he knows...which may or may not be the case, but it sure feels like it.

would expect it’s the opposite way around… like Chris Blair should be professional and unbiased because national people pick up the radio broadcast clips
Never been a member of the association that governs and trains PByP guys but many have Mass Comm degrees and some schools who have a dedicated Sports Broadcasting degree (LSU does not) train PByP announcers. But I just gave you above the exact wording from PA announcer association.
Blair is a "home team employed" PBYP guy even if he gets picked up by someone else. When Lyn Rollins is contracted with a non-LSU network to call LSU games his commentary is different than when he and Ronnie Rantz would do the TV for LSU baseball.
But in-house PA announcers are not to be "cheerleaders" and the extra enthusiasm shown by Borne or others borders on going over the line, although I love Dan and will miss his calls. But he never provided additional commentary, or urged the fans to "be loud" or other home team oriented verbiage. Blair and Doug Thompson can say "come on we need a hit" or any other use of "we" meaning the home team without violating their mission since they are defined as the home broadcasting crew and can be partisan.
