I love road games but never been to Ole Miss. Is it safe to say my best bet is in Memphis? I have a cousin who attends Ole Miss and want to meet up on Friday in Oxfart, then go to the hotel. Any suggestions are appreciated.

Is the drive from Memphis to ole miss congested on the day of the game?

Oxford is a very small town and there aren't a lot of options...I think there is a decent hampton inn near the convention center, but I am sure that is booked...

I think your best bet would be to head to batesville, which is kind of a shitty place, but is the only town that is big enough in that area to have some decent hotels and decent food and it is only about a half hour away...

outside of that, you can drive to tupelo or southaven, both of which are nice towns and have a good bit of stuff...but are about an hour from Oxford....

the area right around campus will be congested, but nothing at all like LSU...in fact, I have never seen traffic as bad at an away game as I have at LSU...

Grenada is too far away, probably 80 miles away. I drive through there driving from Tupelo back home to Louisiana. A lot of people stay in Memphis, Batesville would be good just to sleep in, no restaurants, etc. The best place is Tupelo, 53 miles away, all 4-lane now. Tupelo has every motel and restaurant you could need. Most north of town in the mall area. The football team stays in Tupelo at the Hilton. I always greet them at the airport every two years when they fly in. There's only about 5 of us LSU people that live in Tupelo and wlecome them here. I saw Ruban Randle and Josh Downs from my hometown once. They bus over to the game.

Grenada is 45-50 min

Oxford in a nice place but small. I would call it quaint. There are a few hotels but they are likely booked as said.

Batesville is 25-30 from campus. Nothing to do there but the Holiday and Comfort Inns are good. There are a few Basic Resturaunts.

Warning: the hotel price within 75 miles doubles on game weekends.

ETA..+1 Tupelo. Its a little father from LA but nice place.

Tupelo is not a bad drive at all.

I currently live in Walls (right under Memphis) and am commuting to Oxford until I close on my house there. It is a 90 minute drive down 55 and across 6. Easy drive. But, Tupelo is your best bet.

as tupelo says, Grenada is too far from oxford to drive after a game...and there is only one hotel there that I would consider and it will be booked every weekend during football season...

My wife and I have stayed at the Hilton Garden Inn in Tupelo for the last 2 Ole Miss-LSU games in Oxfart. The Ole Miss team was staying there both times, 2011 and 2013. I never saw the LSU team there in those two years.

Tupelo is best, imo, just in terms of going to and from the game.

Grenada is fine--several hotels and eateries. Check in-- put on game wear, go to Oxford via Coffeeville--reverse after game. Have Crackerbarrel breakfast in Grenada, then enjoy a much shorter drive home. We've done it for years. Only way to go to Ole Miss without hassles.

No hotels in Oxford. Only barns and brothels. Have fun. It really is in the middle of nowhere.

Be ready for terrible tailgate/game experience. I quit going a couple years ago can't stand the people there. There isn't a more delusional/irrational fan base on the planet

We have stayed in Granada for the Ole Miss game. It was fine. There are several hotels right off the interstate and I remember a pretty good BBQ restaurant across the street. I forgot the name of it but it was a big place with 2 bars.

This. Every time I see them in the top 3 on those tailgate rankings I cringe. You've never met a more pretentious group of people in your life as you will in Oxford, MS. The way they act, you'd think they're at Harvard and not a state school in MS.

Save the cash and stay with your cousin. Memphis is a bit of a drive, I would be exhausted after the game and wouldn't want to drive that far. Batesville is 30mins (+traffic) away

Ole Miss was the only place where someone tried to kick my arse for literally no reason, and LSU lost that night. The tailgating is definitely overrated but if you have not experienced it, I would go see it. Just don't have a beer in your hand (solo cup is fine), or an open flame, or loud music... or an open ice chest. Yeah, it does kinda suck

We stayed in a cabin at Wall Doxey state park in 2013, its about 20 miles north of oxford, and an easy 25 minute drive to the square. Being that its a state park the cabins are relitively cheap. Definitely worth looking into.
