NC State basketball is at best 3rd in their own state and the ACC is not the ACC of years past. The Final Four run a couple seasons ago was an absolute fluke.

Will we spend money on basketball is the question. I guess we will soon find out.

Don't let the media reports (which are click bait) fool you. Wade is NOT coming back to LSU. Never. LSU will not rehire that charlatan. Even if he was a good coach, how often do you see former coaches rehired?

LSU is a better job than NC State presently even with how much we suck as a basketball program.

Remember, the ACC as we know it might not even exist in 3-5 years. It could end up just like the Pac 12. And NC State is a 2nd-tier ACC program.

I’ll take a fluke at this point for LSU. These last few years have been so depressing

I been a LSU basketball fan my entire life, always liked college basketball (football is my favorite, basketball is.. or was next). When Will Wade was let go I lost interest. For me, its like the McMahon years has been a blur. If Wade comes back.. That would be great.

Insiders said months ago Wade would be heavily targeted by LSU when we hired Kiffin so this lines up.

That's pretty laughable they think they're a better job in the longer term. LSU basketball is a juggernaut waiting to be awoken if it gets the backing it needs. All it takes is commitment with the $$$ and it's over at that point. Does NC State have that capability over LSU? No, especially considering ACC is weak and might not exist soon. You might have a better basketball program right now but that doesn't mean you're the better fit in the longer term when it comes to resources/money.

OP is about a post on an NC State message board, not a media report. Of course it could be wrong but it's not clickbait in the usual sense of the word.

Agreed. Final Four in 2024, and then they fired the coach after the following season. If Wade doesn't take the LSU job, I don't see him staying in Raleigh long-term. A better program will come calling and he'll bolt.

Alleva suspending him for the NCAAT due to a Pat Forde article is the most chickenshit thing ever.

NC State is not a bad job. It's not the "blue blood" job basketball ignorant LSU fans claim it is. But it's not a place where a coach, with the right mix, can't win big. Look at a place like Virginia. It had virtually no significant history prior to the 1980's. It was good in that decade, following by up and down years in the 90's/early 2000's before great success under Bennett until the NIL/transfer rules changed and it started to backslide. Bennett knew it was time to get out and their new HC has them at the top of the ACC. The right HC makes all the difference.

I don't think Wade is desperately trying to get out of NC State. But I do think LSU is very unique job when it comes to him. He wasn't fired by LSU because of poor performance and the fans/donors demanding a change. He's the only coach I can recall in LSU in modern LSU history where that was the case. Even after leaving LSU he coached in the state. He already has a donor network built in LA due to working 7 years in the state. There is no other job he could leave for where that would be the case. Then, you combine that with the fact that ever major administrative move LSU has made in the last year has aligned favorably with Wade. The two guys who adamantly would not consider rehring him were pushed out. The president has been replaced by the president he worked for at McNeese last year. The chairman of the BOS is a LC business owner who was a big donor to Wade.

Don't let the handful of contrarians on the board fool you, the fanbase, as a whole, would be THRILLED if Wade returned. From LSU's perspective all administrative impediments to a return have been removed. It really would could down to making the money "right" and convincing him to leave a job after 1 season. The latter is probably a little easier these days because there is no more multi-year building in CBB anymore. He literally (if the players agreed to it) could take every NC State player with remaining eligibility and every commit/signee and just transport them to LSU and

Pretty sure Wade loved it here and the fans loved him as well. The man was juicing out of his own pocket that tells you he wanted to win.

The major hurdle was Woodward and he was fired. Woodward is the reason the program torpedo'd itself. I'm not going to say Wade was entirely innocent here, but what he was doing was pretty tame compared to some of these blue blood programs in basketball.

It's not his fault that LSU wasn't giving basketball the money it needed. I think this is where he might have a problem with LSU. He knows what it's like here and I'm pretty sure he knows the money just flows through football while it's much harder to get commitment from LSU on basketball. He'll need guarantees but the upside is I'm sure he knows LSU has deep pockets when they commit to something as well.
