Did you make those?

If so you get a Gold Star for those days!

That's pretty cool.

My MIL that lives with us hit 10 out of 10. She has the bonus traits of being extremely lazy, accusing others of her faults, having an extreme low IQ, and demanding of others continuously.

What do I win?

One of my dad’s axioms:

My old man had similar

"Give me answers, not excuses, boy"

If you gave him answers, you talked with him

If you gave excuses, *Dr Hairbrush did the talking

*(Dr hairbrush was one of those square heavy wooden hairbrushes with the boars hair bristles more common a century ago)

Searched the interwebz and this is closed as I could find today.

The one I remember was a light wood (boar bristles were light) and both more square (like a paddle) and heavy (hurt like hell when it was my knuckles or my palms on the other end).

She gets around, I just got lucky and got engaged to her, then got out.

Tried to buy you a drink for taking her off my hands but could not find you.

I’ll see your graduate degree-holding hairbrush and raise you a belt or a switch.

And do not bring an undersized switch upon request.

(Kinda messed-up logic there, tbh. Obviously I wasn’t bringing a twig or something Louisville Slugger-sized as a switch, but what training or experience do adolescents have to determine appropriate switch size?)

A open hand would seem to the appropriate instrument of corporal punishment.

sounds badass and all but this is purely subjective to what he considers a reason and what he considers an excuse

so you probably got hit a lot just because he didn't agree with what you were saying or simply because of his mood

someone else unbiased may have come along and looked at things from your view and agreed with you

I am guessing that was used on your backside?

Ever felt one of these before in that region?

The best invention in my life was going from a straight razor to this!

At least when it came to my backside.

Nope, old school G&C, and when the carrot did not work, he showed me the stick.

Nope, that was mom not dad

Took beatings from the nuns too

Look, in all honesty, I could have been a very, very, bad person with a lot of anger and rage issues. I was very good at sports where I got to hit people. Growing up a Mick Wop back then (and Catholic to boot) was no easy thing. My saving grace (besides some mentors in my youth) is two lines I never crossed.

#1 never harmed an animal
#2 never was a bully

God had a path for me all along, just took some harsh beatings to wake up and use my mind and not my fists. Not saying it is the answer for everybody but the conversion from anger to empathy is probably why I am still this side of the dirt at this late age. When you are on a first name basis with local law enforcement in grade school, it probably is you. Several of those officers are long since dead and buried, but I thank God they changed my path from war with the world to peace.

Since we have similar life experiences (and guessing you are collecting Social Security at the moment) how did you turn out?

Not saying we should beat or kids in anger for no reason, but sure seems like coddling them in youth is doing them no favors either.
