My first vivid memory of LSU football -- J C Politz

My first exposure to LSU football was radio. I remember JC Politz calling the Billy Cannon run in 1959. I was at an aunt's house in Morgan City. I remember it because my dad danced around the room. Real fans back then would bet you on the TV replay.

Mine was LSU playing Wyoming in the Sugar Bowl in 1968. I was 9 years old and knew that I was a fan of LSU but I also really liked the horses that Wyoming had on their helmets.

I've got a bunch of cousins in Morgan City.
Funny, they were all older and the ones who got me into LSU football.

My first vivid memory is a few from the the Wyoming game in '78, but the most I have is the '79 USC game...

1981 Florida in TS. Wayne Peace, Lorenzo Hampton, Wilbur Marshall, Gaylen Hall coach. Think we lost 20-10 or something like that. First game as friends sister and BIL brought me. First in family to go to college and none really followed football so kind of a self made Tiger fan from that point on!

Mine is 1958, first game vs. Hardin Simmons. I walked through the portal of the SE upper deck and saw the most beautiful green field lit by the stadium lights. Was completely hooked.
Later that year my brother and I were at a sitters while my mom and dad went to the ole miss game. When they picked us up my dad was feeling his adult beverage and when we got home he danced with my mom in the kitchen as he sang Tennessee Waltz.
My brother and I died laughing. It still brings a smile to my face when I remember it.

The first game I attended in Tiger stadium was a Kentucky game in the 70s. What I remember the most was the win of course but I was shocked by how many people were passed out on the bleachers as we we’re leaving the stands. Drunk peeps were littered all over. This was the only game he ever attended because he wasn’t much for crowds. Dad and I talked about it for years.

My most vivid memory is Alabama vs LSU in the rain 1979. #1 Bama squeaked by with a 3-0 win. That's when I became a diehard Tiger fan.

What a miserable cold game that was to sit through. LSU produced no hope of an offensive threat the entire game. I remember calling in sick to work the next morning because I was just in a bad mood after that experience

Mine was oranges raining down on the field. LSU versus FSU in the early 80s I believe.

Tommy Hodson to Tony Moss in the purple unis. I remember my dad telling me that Moss was from Bossier. So naturally, seeing him out there making plays on a Saturday night in Death Valley, I was pulling for the local kid and hooked on the Fighting Tigers! Thank the good lord I was born in Louisiana. If for no other reason than a birth right to cheer for the Bayou Bengals.

Yes he did, but the play should have been blown dead with 2 USC lineman moving before the snap...
