I think her foul trouble kept her from attacking the basket more than anything else

Really cause she was jacking up only threes at the beginning of the game before she was in foul trouble

Seemingly everytime Angel got the ball, Iowa doubled/trapped/limited Reese, but others picked up the scoring.

Yet I didn't see Mulkey double Clarke once, for some strange reason.

Mulkey's gameplan proved effective enough, but you'd think the nation's best player would've been hounded, forcing others to try to beat us.

That wasn’t the key to the game at all the key to the game was getting them all in foul trouble and keeping the big bitch in the middle on the bench. Clark dropped 30pts and had 8 assist she was feeding them for points just as much as she always did. We shot the lights out in the first half. Kim told them to take the 3 if they was open. No team was beating us yesterday

If you’re playing according to plan at the beginning of the game and it’s working, no reason to change it. She woulda looked like Les Miles and we’d all be talking about how our team overachieved this year but it wasn’t our year. Next year will be the year. Etc.

I hated how tight the refs called the game.

The refs called it tight then loose then tight and missed a bunch of obvious calls during the whole game. They were terrible both ways. Iowa’s big 3 getting in foul trouble definitely hurt them since LSU’s bench stepped the frick up. Great win for the Tigers. Well earned title.

They also cut off a lot of the give and go down the paint of the high post and screen which killed SC.

If it involved brining in two bench players early that literally did not miss, yes, her game plan was masterful.

Our winning had nothing to do with a defensive game plan. They scored a bunch. We scored 102, our girls played lights out on offense.

The game plan was good, but Iowa still scored 85 points. LSU won more due to their offense being much better than it has been all season. LSU’s 3 point shooting was insane and the difference in the game. LSU had only made 14 threes before hitting 12 yesterday. Without that insane shooting, I still think LSU would’ve won, but it would’ve been very close.

Yep that game plan was Alexis Morris

The bench won it the 2nd Qtr, up by 21 at half, pretty hard to overcome, they made a good run at it but Morris kicked it into high gear and her shots fell. They hacked at Reese all game, thus their big fouled out.

I knew our depth would play a part. Iowa didn’t have anyone on the bench that could match their starters production.

Eeh. I don’t know that I’d call it masterful. It was good. They scored 85. Clark had a really good game.

The masterful part was having her team ready to go and extremely motivated from the get go. We didn’t have to “heat up” or “get into the game”.
We had to play one of our best games in the last month to win.
We shot the lights out. The bench scored a ton and their team got in foul trouble. I don’t think you could bank on any of those three things happening much less all three.

It was nice to see them play loose and themselves. They seemed tight the last couple games and Morris had to “close” games. That was the team firing on all cylinders.

Double Clark and any of the other 4 starters for Iowa can beat the brakes off of anyone. The game plan was right on the money, from a defensive stand point. Iowa had an amazing team, I don’t think anyone can deny that.

Clark also messed up. She focused only on threes.

Meh, she took what she could and did damn well at it. Her "focus" was on threes bc that's all the scheme and defensive play allowed. That is OP's point, and OP is correct.

She drove to finish and drove to dish with a very high success rate against USC. She would have done the same against us if she could have.

I assure you that defense played a huge role in that game... Yes, LSU finally had a tremendous offensive game, but their defense is what disrupted Iowa's game plan. They also out rebounded Iowa by a dozen. Pat Summit's quote is extremely applicable to this LSU team -- "Offense sells tickets, defense wins games, rebounding wins championships."

We were physical with her but didn't sell out to guard her.

Morris (and Poa) did a great job harassing her all game and as Mulkey said, not stop her (no one can) but contest her shots and make them more difficult.

It was a really phenomenal example of coaching and players executing.

They asked Alexis what she told the team when Iowa went on their run. She said "no threes, we'll take our 2s." That is what sealed the win for us. We didn't get rattled and try to keep up with their outside shooting. We played our game which has worked well all year and took the 3s when they gave them to us.
