LSU hired Jake Olsen to be our safties coach.
I don't know if that was a good move or not but our safties have not played well so far.
He spent two years under Blake Baker coaching LB at Missouri.
Was this the right move hiring him for safties coach? Or was this simply Blake Baker looking out for him .I say just let Raymond coach safties and CB.

Once major burns and sage Ryan leave safety play will improve.

How many safeties coaches have these older guys had? At a certain point, they can’t all be crappy coaches.

Welp, we removed the entire past staff, and ask yourself who remains?

I was just curious as why a LB coach would be asked to coach safties and what is his knowledge of coaching the safety position.

He’s simply a good defensive coach.

I’m sure he & Baker decided who would coach LB & who would coach Safeties seeing as Baker was DC/Safety coach at Mizzou last year.

Obviously Baker wanted to coach LBs this year

Read the bio of some assistant coaches all over the country. They coach many different positions, some even moving to different sides of the ball.

And safety and LB is not that drastically different, and he and Baker probably work together on both.

I think that's the case here.

And frankly, I think a good bit of our linebacker woes might be Baker trying to find a fit for Perkins, using his 2022 Arkansas & Ole Miss games as a standard.
Meaning: Perkins may have the potential to be great, but it's been very difficult and mostly unsuccessful getting him there. We might see LB play improve with guys who haven't shown the top end, but better fit into the schemes.

I've never been more ready for players to run out of eligibility than with these two. I'm genuinely shocked we haven't been able to find better players at their positions the last 2-3 years.

Wasn't Baker the safeties coach at LSU? No, nevermind, that was Busch. There have been so many coaches I can't keep track.

I really like the current FR class of Keys, Atkins and Singleton. Very athletic group to go with Whit. Then add Charles Ross (commit) who is a freak and really suited to be our star position if you watch his film and we have a very talented young group to build a foundation at the LB spot.

Burns and Ryan are a liability. Especially Ryan. He may be fast, but he is to small to play safety or corner and lacks toughness. He gets run over every game or blows coverage. Burns is a little better but still not very good. Ole Miss will expose them again.

Is there another head coach I’m not aware of? Every assistant is a Brian Kelly hire.

What is so ironic is that the stars and rating suggested Sage was going to determine whether or not LSU had a good recruiting class. Losing out on Burns to UGA also seemed telling in the opposite direction.

Burns, Sage, and Penn leaving will be major addition by subtraction. Although I am wondering besides Whit Weeks who is playing linebacker next year?
