November 25, 1972 : LSU at Florida. In a driving rainstorm on Florida Field's slick as glass Astro-Turf, Florida's Nat Moore sprints 79 yards from the UF 20 about to score. LSU's Mike Williams runs completely across the field and drags him down before Moore can score. This was the era of 'tear away' jerseys and Moore's was torn and shreded after that play so had to leave for one play to change jerseys. His replacment fumbled on the next play and LSU recovered . Game eventually ended in a 3-3 tie,one of LSU's strangest games ever.

That's because the responses in the thread have moved from "underrated" play to just as listing of great plays.
That was a great hit by Jones that everyone still remembers. But I don't know if it was "underrated". Particularly, when it didn't have much impact on the game.
The underrated Jones play was his endzone deflection vs. MSU in 2009. It often gets forgotten because that wasn't a championship season and games against MSU are rarely memorable. But that was an incredible play to save LSU/Les from an embarrassing loss. The TE was all by himself in the endzone. If Jones doesn't have the wherewithal to jump up and bat down the ball MSU wins.

Many people weren't there including me, but Billy Cannon apparently not only famously ran a kick for a touchdown against Ole Miss. He also stopped a goal line run to win the game!

What stands out to me was LSU vs. Florida, 2007. Jacob Hester kept running for first downs on 4th downs over and over. It was epic.

A good candidate, but I submit the OU BCS title game ending on a punt that no one was there to field.
I still get annoyed that we were not able to kneel it out. I’ve gone back and watched it countless times. I have never seen referees rush so fast to spot a ball. This was pre-40 second clock. We got the ball back with 1:56 to play. Under today’s rules, we would’ve never had to punt.

I was at that game. I had tickets in the LSU section with a friend from Starkville who graduated from MSU. Kickoff was 11:30 am, so we got to campus around 8:00 or so to tailgate. The plan was to tailgate, go to the game, the go back to the tailgate after. Well, my buddy decided to cram everything into the 3 hours before the game. He was so drunk that he passed out at 11:00 am and couldn't make it into the stadium...so I went alone. It poured down raining for much of the game.
It was a typical Les game. Every time LSU looked like it was about to get a stranglehold on the game MSU would make a play to stay in it...eventually leading to a wild finish. MSU just rolled their way to the LSU 2 with a little more than 1:00 to go. It felt like the game winning TD was inevitable. I was seated low on the sideline of that endzone. I remember seeing the MSU TE wide open in the endzone before Jones seemingly came out of nowhere to bat the ball down. LSU held on the next play and won the game. Jones' punt return and tipped pass were the difference. After, I was walking of the stadium on my phone trying to find my friend when some MSU doofus was challenging every LSU fan to a fight. He looked at me and I just laughed at him before his buddies dragged his dumbass away.

True. But that felt like just an inconvenient necessity with the result already decided.
The tension was high for that 4th down play for OM. It was do-or-die for both teams and that was the first game where it felt like LSU was a legitimate national championship contender for the first time in decades.
Everything came down to that play. You could feel the pre-snap tension...and it ended in 2 seconds with Eli falling down.
