2003, on the road at Vaught. Eli Manning is the qb. Its 4th and 10 with seconds remaining. Ole Piss magical season hangs in the balance. With a win against LSU we don't go to the SEC Championship and likely never get to frick up Oklahoma.

Ball is hiked and Chad Lavalais (National Defensive POTY and finalist for the Nagurski and Outland)explodes off the ball pushing left guard Doug Buckles straight into his own backfield causing him to step on Eli's foot and then stumble and fall down. He is swiftly downed and the ball game is over.

LSU becomes the undisputed SEC West Champs and goes on to play in the Title game and beat UGA a second time and then Oklahoma.






The runts go on to hang a "SEC WEST CO-CHAMPS" banner at Vaught

Probably the most anti-climatic ending to a big game as I've ever seen.

That was the biggest game for Ole Miss in decades...and it ends with Manning falling down.

In 1970 Notre Dame defeated LSU 3-0 in South Bend when a questionable penalty gave the Irish a chance to kick a late field goal. Another big and powerful ND team came to Tiger Stadium a year later in a much-anticipated rematch. With the tigers up 7-0 late in the first quarter, Bert Jones was sacked and fumbled on the LSU 35 yard line. ND then employed its size advantage on ten consecutive inside runs to reach a fourth down and 1 inch for a first down, about 4 inches for a TD. After a time-out ND tried fullback Andy Huff on a play similar to one that had succeeded in a fourth down conversion at the 12 yd line. The Irish did not make the inch. It looked promising for moment when their left guard got his block, but an LSU defender (number 95 - listed on the roster as Skip Cormier, all of 205 lbs.) knifed in from the outside, beating his block to be the first to make contact at Huff's knees and other defenders swarmed quickly to throw him back. This was a pivotal moment, as LSU would deny ND on fourth down tries inside the LSU ten yard line FOUR times during the 28-8 victory.

Few of you remember or want to remember this play but I remember it well. It was Nov. 3, 1963. Ole Miss was playing a rare afternoon football game against LSU in Baton Rouge. CBS was broadcasting
As was always the case in those days, the Ole Miss- LSU game had SEC and national championship implications. Ole Miss was undefeated. LSU had lost once. Ole Miss sped to an early lead and LSU was fighting to get back in the game.
Ole Miss punted and LSU speedster Joe Labruzzo, who had run the 100-yard dash in 9.6 seconds for the LSU track team, gathered in the kick at his own 14 and took off. He broke into the clear and seemed headed for an 86-yard touchdown that might have turned the game around. Then, a huge Ole Miss player appeared on the screen, racing to try and catch Labruzzo from behind. This huge, speeding Rebel was a sophomore from Newton, named Stan Hindman. Labruzzo weighed 175 pounds. Hindman weighed 232. As Labruzzo crossed the 5-yard-line, Hindman reached out his right arm, snagged Labruzzo from behind, and took him down at the one-yard-line. Ole Miss then held the Tigers on a goal line stand and went on to win the game 37-3. Nearly 57 years later, Hindman’s rundown of Labruzzo remains one of the most incredible athletic feats I have witnessed.
