For me, either Rohan Davey or Danny Etling.

Davey was uber accurate and threw such a pretty/catchable ball.

Etling was a tough sob. He rarely made costly mistakes and was quietly very efficient.

Rohan Davey was a beast the year he actually played.

I think Etling. Etling did more with less and got less credit for it, although folks sleep on Rohan because his time was immediately before the current championship era.

I think Risher is also underappreciated (as is 4-year starter Jamie Howard, although some of that was self-inflicted).

Etling was very under appreciated. His Sr. Year he finished with the 3rd highest passer rating in LSU history at that time and set a record for 40+ yard completions. His Jr. year he managed a 30+ point jump in passer rating from the previous 2 QBs so yes he was a very underrated QB for us. But Rohan has to be #1, LSU made the jump from western division doormat to SEC Champs with Rohan. That’s a huge and near impossible climb to make in a couple of seasons. He set passing records that stood for nearly 2 decades, some still stand even after Burrow came through. He was tough as nails, he was smart and he was a leader. Most LSU fans love Rohan and he is appreciated but he’s still under appreciated IMO. A lot of fans will have guys like Jones, Russell, Flynn and some will even have Mett but I’d put Davey in my top 3 without question.

Etling did a great job playing within his limitations, but he had a lot of limitations.

Who did we beat with Etling? A lot of QBs could’ve beaten the teams he did. We won a lot of those games off of talent alone. Let’s not rewrite history here. We lost to TROY with him at QB. I’m pretty sure he got benched at one point during that game too and Brennan had to come in.

Agree about Mike Hillman. I loved watching him play. Lefthander who wore #13. Was also a very good runner until knee injuries slowed him.

Rohan has always been appreciated. I think that’s clear. Of Ro doesn’t injure his knee against Tennessee in 2000 and then get hurt again it a week or so later at Florida, Booty never sees the field.

Post 1980 o would say Mickey Guidry and Herb. Especially Herb. We won plenty of games because of his ability to hit the long out route on play action and escape pressure.

He beat 5 ranked teams including #10 Auburn in a 20 point comeback. We gave up 200+ yards and 3TDs on the ground vs Troy. Etling completed 70% threw 2TDs and ran for 60 yards at 11 yards per carry in that game, it wasn’t because of him we lost.
