I know in the last we struggled against Prairie View in the first half. Looking for improvement tonight!

Advanced analytics say LSU by 20+. LSU needs to right the ship tonight before conference play. AA had them by 26 & 31 in the last two games, and LSU way underperformed.

USM has been a strange team. They are 5-6, including a loss at Grambling. But they have raised their level of play vs. the two SEC opponents they've faced this season, losing in OT @ South Carolina and losing a close game (by 4) to Ole Miss in Biloxi. Maybe that says more about Ole Miss and South Carolina than anything else, but I think it's pretty reasonable to say if LSU plays as bad as they did defensively vs. Prairie View USM is more than capable of winning the game.
LSU hasn't been good defensively over the last few games. That's why their def efficiency number is dropping like a rock. You'd like to see some signs of life on that end of the floor entering SEC play. Particularly with a road game to start.
This team probably doesn't have much time to "settle in" once SEC play starts because, on paper, the soft part of the schedule looks to be in January. I think you can argue 5 of the 9 games in January seem "winnable": @ A&M, S. Car (2x), Mizzou, Miss. St. You can't let those opportunities for wins go by because the 2nd half of the SEC schedule is much tougher.
IMO, (assuming a win tonight) LSU needs at least 8 wins in SEC play to be in the discussion for a NCAA Tournament bid. With the conference "down" from last season combined with LSU's weak non-conf. schedule, it's hard to see 7 SEC wins being enough this season. Anything short of 4 wins in January will be a BIG disappointment

I did not really that they competed that closely with two SEC teams, as you say, Ole Miss and SC may just be not very good....but their NET ranking is 177 right now.
Still I'd rather play more Southern Miss level teams than most of the one's on our schedule outside Texas Tech and SMU.
Our last two games we've looked very sluggish. Need to take this one from jump and not fiddle fart around for most of the game like the previous 2.

I'm pumped for this game. Last one before New Year and SEC play.

It's hard to win on the road in the SEC, but if they don't sweep SC, then it's probably lights out. I don't see a win @A&M. Missouri & State have both way underperformed preseason expectations, so hopefully they don't right the ship until after their games vs. LSU.

This game scares me. It is between the holidays and USM has played all of their games against better competition close save 1. I hope LSU brings their A game to gear up for competition.

Whoever sang the anthem better be at the Box on a big Friday night in the SEC.
