Yup. But I’ll say it....BLM.
ETA: y’all can downvote all you want but deep down you know it to be true.
Ed knows he has to win or he is gone, so I’m sure he started the guy who he (and staff) thought gave him the best chance to win.

Max is clearly the better player and has proven to be every time he steps out on the field but yet I’m supposed to believe “Finley had a better practice” or some lame excuse like that. Give me a break.
This statement is what confuses me. I like Max and I like how TJ played too but to say either one of these guys is clearly better than other makes no sense. IMO none of these guys( Myles included) are clearly the guy yet. Let it play out in the off season and see who wins

The Boutte TD call still pisses me off.
Do I think it was incomplete? Yes.
Is that the standard for overturning the call on the field? No, that would be “indisputable video evidence.”
Did that exist in this case? No.
Stands.

Or maybe they’re just tired of everything being about race and pointing out another scenario in which it was a factor.
Except for one thing: you have absolutely no idea if it was a factor. You made a wild assumption and decided it was the truth.
This is how these dumb rumors get started. You can’t read the minds of the coaching staff and neither can I.

I have no idea what ANYBODY on staff saw in practice that justified Max not starting
You don't get to ad lib in practice, you run the play. Different guys in practice should all look basically the same, timing should be about the same, etc.
TJ clearly has the bigger arm and is a bit taller, so when he and Max run a passing play in practice, TJ probably looks "better". Ball pops out of his arm like a rocket.
You don't get to see how well someone makes his progressions most of the time, especially freshmen who you want just running the base play. Remember, the announcers were wowed by TJ too, said he was a star in the making.

Guess y’all forgot that Max didn’t start because he hadn’t practiced for 2 weeks because of covid

Well, we’ve never seen Max have to carry an offense with his run game getting stuffed like Finley was trying to do. A lot of fans see the offense move the ball, and that’s all that matters; they don’t notice the extra time to throw or the extra man in the box. The coaches had 100 times the data and 1000 times the experience that you had, and they played TJ.
Max showed great poise; so did TJ.
Max was careful with the ball; so was TJ.
Max showed heart; so did TJ.
Max is more accurate and crisp on short passes; TJ has better deep ball and has more power to hit the 15 to 20 yard routes.
Max is mobile; TJ is not.
I liked what I saw of each of them. Max’ attributes look a little better to me on the strength of his ability to run. I think that’s huge. I don’t think we win the title last year if Joe was immobile. But the real measure of these guys is who will compete the hardest - in the film room, on the practice field, then on the playing field. And we can’t tell that by a few games, against disparate defenses, their true freshman year.
They both chose to be Tigers, so I’ll bow to the superior knowledge and experience of the coaches and let it play out.

Weren’t those the shitty SEC Network announcers? I don’t understand why people were fawning over him as much as they did. Couldn’t throw accurately beyond 15 yards, threw 100 mph no matter where the receiver was, can’t run. Just didn’t seem to have it.
I know people either don’t want to believe it was a race thing. But I follow a lot of these guys on social media. It was SO INCREDIBLY OBVIOUS that the black players wanted TJ. It’s one thing to congratulate a player but a couple of them (Racey and one or two others) called him the GOAT—imagine how that must have felt for Myles after he played his arse off the first 3 games. I think O knew this and catered because he was losing the locker room.

Freeman’s our top DC candidate too bro. I think we all know why that is amirite?
Because he has Cincy’s defense playing big boy football. We also had Chavis, and his defenses were the best in college football. He was the only guy stopping the spread back then, and he was stoning traditional power offenses.

Man, I disagree with you. I think 30A nailed it. He said the guys were probably fairly even, and that we were in an unstable racial situation at the time. Race probably was a factor. This should not shock you; this is encoded in our affirmative action laws. It’s not as though this is novel.
We now have the situation in which Max has slightly outperformed TJ, but not nearly enough to make him the obvious choice. Orgeron has been very good about adding praise for Finley every time he’s asked about Max. I hope Finley stays and competes, because I liked what I saw of him.

On the coaching changes board we've seen multiple comments implying that race is playing into the DC hire, which I also find silly considering Marcus Freeman is widely considered to one of, if not the most, coveted DC candidates in college football.
Freeman is coveted why? Because he seems like a very good coach, and you get to check the box. That second part is huge! LSU can’t go out and hire two white coordinators. That would create a meltdown.
We are in an untenable situation as a country. Our affirmative action policies - actual or de facto - are fanning the racism they are meant to overcome. This, and government handouts, are enfeebling the welfare classes that are disproportionately black (due to past discrimination, slavery, etc).

Agreed. It's time to let it go.
They are both talented players. Each has his own upside, and the coaches have to make decisions on what they think is best.

What got me was how Max never had a chance to really be part of the games leading up to FLA.
vs South Carolina- DNP
vs Auburn- played 4Q (game out of reach), scored only TD
vs Arky- DNP
vs A&M- played 4Q (game out of reach) , scored only TD
vs Bama- played late 3Q (game out of reach), FG
It's like we were never able to get a good look at what he was capable of so as not to start a QB controversy. In the end, I think it very well cost LSU a winning season.

It kills me that the Admin allows this rhetoric to remain on for days. It's a time of great racial tensions: fact. The majority of the team is black : fact. Some are too young to distinguish the difference between racial and racism. Please can we move forward with a more united front. We are coming off a 5-5 season with the potential to return back to the CFP or slip into mediocrity. It may seem small but the energy around the program (yes, that definitely includes message boards) plays a huge part in the success of the team. Regardless of your thoughts about BLM or who should have started, we can all agree that it's going to take a lot to get back in the race with the Alabamas and Ohio States. I'm a Black man and I agree without hesitation that Johnson would have given us a better chance to beat A&M. I don't ,however, believe that the decision had anything to do with race. Some decisions are racial but that doesn't mean it's racism.
