Russell is the best QB to play for LSU. If that's the criteria it's him

Correct. His last season was amazing.

Too bad Bert Jones didn't play in the mid 2000's though.

TouchdownTony

Bert so year the starting QB is Buddy Lee and he is playing 2nd rotation. No way Bert starts over Lee, as Bert while having a live arm he was shaken on the field.

The next season Bert is a Jr. and 2nd rotation to Paul Lyons who is having a very good year and Jones like the year before at the start of the season looked shaken at times on the field, but by Oct he looked more under control and the reason why Jones ended up starting as his arm was outstanding.

He was no thread to setting a unbreakable passing record, as he had Andy at wr and just average players beyond Andy, at TE LSU had an outstanding player.

But LSU offense at the time was to predicable.

Tiger1988 the fans were not booing because of our offense, Paul was 6-1 and LSU was 6-1, Bert the year before was 57 of 109 52.3 for 909 yards with 5 tds and 6 ints. and very shaken at times on the field for -118 yards rushing.

I remember it very well and yes you are correct. It was the potential and where we were offensively.
It was not using the tools that he had. Just like Les.

I read John Ferguson said that the 1946 LSU Football Team was the most talented team, he ever witnessed, & although it was after LSU, Canton Ohio says very much.

Dude what are you talking about? JaMarcus redshirted his first year, then split time with Randall, a senior, but played in 11 games. Ask Nick Saban if you have further questions. You seem ignorant.

>Says you’re ignorant for not realizing Jamarcus did beat out Randall.

LSU played good enough to win that game when they had ZERO BIZ even being on the Field with that great USC team... They got very lucky to even come out of there with a win and EVERY USC player would tell you the dame..........

interesting you say this. There was a story a few years ago on the anniversary of the game and the USC players till this day said that game haunts them.LINK

1936 team had more talent that 1946

But the 1943 would have been super talented across the board.

LSU going into 1943 would have been loaded, but that team got busted up to the transfer to the Navy schools, and the Army not letting it's players play on school teams. We lost Jones dad to Tulane and Dark to USL, but what really hurt was the linemen that could not play due to the Army rules.

In their 2nd year of starting, Etling had more yards, touchdowns, a higher quarterback rating, and less interceptions than Russell.

You mean how Les didn’t take out a 1/7 TD/INT vs Bama Jarret Lee for Jordan Jefferson in 2011?
Repaired.

Or how he wouldn’t take out a miserable Jefferson in the bowl game for anyone on the roster?
Jefferson completed 65% of passes called under heavy rush all night, not sure who you think would've done better.

Flynn is so overrated by this board. It is hilarious to me that some people think he was a better college QB than Mauck & Mett.

Flynn was the better NFL QB. I'll give them that.

damn. Etling takes a lot of crap when you look at his actual stats compared to the best we have had. Especially when you consider how restricted he was in terms of “letting her rip”

Etling would not have led us to a championship in either of the years we won it. I don't care how good his stats looked, he could never win a back and forth shootout or come from behind. Something was missing that many of our other guys over the years had. I think its leadership. As much as he appeared to try to lead, the team never embraced him as the leader we needed.

Like a couple 2OT games in '07?

You gotta remember DE was thrown into the fire 4 games in '16 and then the Eaux Canada dumpster fire of '17.
Given the same time to learn the offense, I think he'd have performed as well or better than Flynn with that same team.

Folks love to discount stats that don't support their view.

Play calling lost the UK one, and the defense giving up 50 lost Arkansas. Twist your stats how you want as well, Etling isn't keeping within 30 of that Arkansas team that day.

Flynn completed under 50% of his throws in each loss.
It's all conjecture, but a 60% passer (DE) could have given 4 or 5 more completions in each game and likely affected the outcome of OT games.
