LSU’s Top Quarterbacks of All-Time (Career Stats Included)

Top 10 in your opinion.
Place in your own order, or add to the list and discuss.
* Just to add, I wasn't a big Etling fan, but when comparing his stats to other QBs, including years, they were pretty sick.
* Stats are just for fun, not to rank them.
* I didn’t add Perrilloux, although he’s a huge reason we won the 2007 SECCG and made it to the NCG at all.
Name Career Yds TDs Ints
Rohan Davey (3yrs) - 4415 yds / 29 Td / 15 Int
Matt Mauck (3yrs) - 3831 yds / 37 Td / 18 Int
Bert Jones (3yrs) - 3390 yds / 28 Td / 17 Int
Y. A. Tittle (2yrs) - 1184 yds / 16 Td / NA
Matt Flynn (4yrs) - 3096 yds / 31 Td / 13 Int
Herb Tyler (4yrs) - 5846 yds / 40 Td / 24 Int
Tommy Hodson (4yrs) - 9115 yds / 69 Td / 41 Int

Etling, Tyler and Wickersham over Rohan Davey huh? Bold strategy cotton.

Damn it.
Let me edit. I should be beaten for missing him.

No worries. That's why I don't do those lists anymore. I always seem to leave someone out.
Posted on 6/9/18 at 8:49 am to TigerLunatik
Yea, it happens. I could change that list a hundred times, probably.
Just thought it was something to discuss.

Dumbest thread in the history of tRant.

1. Tommy Hodson but this is very close with number 2.
2. JaMarcus Russell
3. Bert Jones
4. Zach Mettenberger
5. Rohan Davey
6. Matt Mauck
7. Matt Flynn
8. Y. A. Tittle played 4 years, and almost 1/2 his yardage and td's come from playing Tulane 4 times.
9. Danny Etling
10. Herb Tyler
I saw all of these players play in college or pro (including Y.A., also seen film and games of him at LSU.)
Bert and Zach had the best 2 arms and ball placement.
Hodson was not the strongest arm, but good placement.
Russell is still the largest big if, to much arm early at LSU.
Davey had Reed and they worked together well, it helped both of their games.

Rohan did most of his work in one year. It would of been fun to see him have another year after the Sugar Bowl win.

Too many eras, styles, expectations, coaching philosophies, coaching changes, shitty coaches, etc.
For example, Jones throwing for those yards when I was in school with Coach MAC is like a spread offense QB today. He didn’t have the receivers outside of Hamilton and everyone in the stadium knew he would get the ball thrown his way.
Numbers mean zero.
Freaking Coach MAC platooned one of the best pure passers in the history of pro football.
In 1990, Jones participated in the first NFL Quarterback Challenge. He finished first in the retiree category and third in the regular competition (The regular competition taking the top three finishers from the alumni competition and adding them to the regular field of current quarterbacks). Given his strong performance, Bobby Beathard, then the general manager of the Chargers, wanted Jones to come out of retirement,[12] but Jones was 38 at the time and chose not to try a comeback.
The widely respected scout Ernie Accorsi is quoted as saying that if Bert Jones had played under different circumstances, he probably would have been the greatest player ever. John Riggins has been quoted as saying Jones was the toughest competitor he has ever witnessed.[13] On the eve of Super Bowl XLII, New England Patriots head coach Bill Belichick, in discussing his choices for the greatest quarterbacks of all time, described Jones as the best "pure passer" he had ever seen.[14]

Dude, it was just for fun. I didn’t say any of the stats meant anything, I just listed them.
Calm down. I think Tiger Ree has you all fricked up this morning.

3. Rohan Davey
The rest of them don't matter to me except that JaMarcus Russel is up there also whether you like him or not.

I loved Hodson, but he couldn’t carry Jones jock as a pure passer and neither could Russell. Russell was tossing it up to 3 first round draft picks. Hodson has Wendell Davis, Sammy Martin, Eddie Fuller and Kinchen all great receivers at their respective positions.
Jones still had guys going both ways on that team back then.

I think JaMarcus is higher on the list, but he had his moments that made us lose our shite.
I think Rohan was better than he gets credit for. A few more seasons would of proven that.

Jones was booed when he was put into a game because he was platooned with Paul Lyons.
Paul Lyons was 6-1 as the starter in 1971 and had set a LSU record for total yardage in a game vs Wisconsin, every time Bert was put in the fans booed.
And my and dad and I saw the same thing, Jones had the far better arm, it is not until the Notre dame win did the fans stop booing him.
The next season Jones starts.

I see your point, but it’s like saying Archie Manning was better than Drew Brees because Drew had a better Oline, coach, WRs, TEs, running game, played indoors etc.
Saying Hodson couldn’t carry Bert’s jock is a real stretch.
I can see your argument for Jones over Hodson, though. I think Hodson was better, at LSU, but that’s just my opinion.

Russell was not as good as people want to remember him. Made bad decisions, threw a lot of picks. His draft stock rose at the combine, not because of his LSU career.
