Are you seriously suggesting that statistics indicate that there is a problem with the SO/ BB ration? How dare you. I was told at the end of February / early March that I was an idiot for suggesting such a thing. The all knowing gods of baseball knowledge that post here state emphatically that Bianco, Drost, Sanford and co needed more at bats despite having 4/2 or 5/1 SO/BB ratios and that MH should continue to site even though he went 2/4 with a BB and 3 runs scored. Are you implying sir that the hitting hasn’t improved against SEC caliber pitching ? Do you really want us to believe that Tennessee swept LSU for the first time in almost 20 years because we struck out 39 times in three games ? Surely you are trolling this board as the baseball geniuses who “know” better already told us that you don’t need statistics to tell when a guy can “really” hit or not. How dare you use data to support this position.

What am I missing? The OP has 163 RBIs.

Can you do strikeouts with runners in scoring position and less than 2 outs

I don't know if I'm mentally prepared to see that number.
On a different note, Kumar Rocker's average velocity has dropped by 4mph since the beginning of March. It's down to 91.4mph.

What are the individual batting averages with men on base? Men in scoring position?
That will tell you who hits with men on base.

6. Arnold 2B
7. Thompson SS
8. Millazo C
9. Gio/Sanford when Gio isn't healthy

A combo of both stats would be helpful because while it's nice when batted balls fall for hits, sometimes just putting it in play will help.
What sucks is when we keep popping up. Beloso has been a pop up machine. Safford popped up with someone in scoring position yesterday with two outs and two strikes. He kind of got fricked though because strikes one and two weren't even close to the plate.

What is your conclusion?
Pitchers throw more fastballs with nobody on base?

These situations are magnified because LSU does not get people on base at a high clip.
This is a bad offensive team all around.
The basic act of scoring a run starts with getting on base. If you can’t do that, you generally are not a good hitter. Thus I don’t really expect the same players to be able to drive in runs consistently.

Did they put the shift on Beloso any this weekend? I didn’t catch a whole game out of the 3. He was dead pull as a freshman. Last year teams were putting the shift on him and he was trying to go the other way a lot and having some success doing it but he ddidn’t hit for much power last year. He’s just snake bit this year. Did the shift screw him up mentally? Is he trying too much to be THE GUY this year? Or maybe not playing a position has him off?

They shifted some throughout the weekend, it wasn't as much as State did, and I don't remember specifically for Beloso.
It's hard to tell because of the way the games are produced, they don't show the whole field shots all that often. I've noticed they really enjoy showing the whole delivery from the side and then switching mid pitch to the view that shows the batter, which is stupid and disorienting.

I don't think college stats track situational hitting, which is fine though because the results are irrelevant for analytic purposes anyway. The sample sizes for an entire season are far too small to draw any meaningful conclusions, much less 24 total games (or 6 conference games).
Like if Crews was struggling with RISP I don't know if he is), I would hope no one thinks he isn't capable of performing in those situations or he doesn't have the mythical "clutch" gene or anything of that nature.

Morgan hits better in the two hole. Crews hadn’t hit with men on base. Beloso hasn’t hit at all. Our CF play has really hurt too, but Gio is hurt.
I didn’t give you a down vote, but our lineup is bad because we have too many guys either not hitting of not fielding in the clutch.

I agree, but some people believe if he gets moved he will suddenly start hitting three run homers.

The unfortunate reality is at several posters saw this coming from day one. We did not post things in the context of attacks on players, rather, we posted it as a reflection of PM‘s inability to manage a roster or otherwise coach the team. It began back in February when PM listed three people as possibilities at short stop. He had multiple years to deal with short stop following Josh Smith‘s graduation. He then continued to fiddle fart around with other positions, the batting order and mid relief all while denying certain players at bats. This culminated with the departure of MH. Again, rather than criticize individual players most posters pointed out the strike out to walk ratio as a reason to give MH more at bats. The PM crowd then attack every person who criticized PM. They question our intelligence, loyalty to LSU and character. We are challenged to “bet” by some and then when bets were accepted chastised for betting “against” the Tigers. I hate being right on this point. I love this program, have been a season ticket holder for almost 30 years now and have been watching games since 1986. I’ve been to Omaha many times and continue to attend home games. The program has sunk two a low it has not seen since 81/82. The last three years show this to be true. I will support this program and players, but will not support a man who is driving it into the ground.

I want him dropped to 2 in the line up. The likelihood of him hitting a 3 run HR there on his first AB is the same as it is for hitting a 2 run HR now.
But really you just want him to have more opportunities with guys on base. All you can do is try to stack the probabilities in your favor. Batting him 2nd with Morgan in front of him helps. And especially batting Milazzo 8th with one of the middle infielders batting 9th.

I'm fine with him batting 1st, 2nd, or 4th. Those are the most important spots and he's the best hitter on the team. You want him to get as many PAs as possible so 1st and 2nd are the better choices imo.
Other than creating an optimal batting order, there's nothing else you can do to "game" the system to create more multi-run HRs. Most are gonna be solo shots just due to the nature of baseball regardless of order placement. But the more opportunities you give Crews, Morgan, Doughty, and Dugas, the better the offense will be.

I’d love for Gio to come back and hit well enough to be our lead off guy, crews 3rd, doughty 4 and dugas 5
Keep Morgan 2 hole
Keep Morgan 2 hole
