That's a quote from an anonymous coach in the new Athlon Guide to College Football. Anybody else see that?

Their analysis of each team includes comments from anonymous opposing coaches. The comments on LSU were generally favorable and were especially favorable about Brian Kelly.

But the comment that really caught my eye was the one I used as the thread title: "LSU will have their worst secondary in decades"

we have consistently had one of the top secondaries for decades, so we can still be decent but be the worst for LSU.

I will give that anonymous coach every dime that I own if this secondary is worse than our 2020 secondary

I mean it won’t be worse statistically than 2020. It just won’t.

But it possibly will be the least talented secondary we’ve had in quite some time. Need to see what we have in Banks and if he/JBC can stay healthy.

Not really sure how anyone can say that. Does he think Arkansas guys brought over are all snowflakes? They proved what they could do in the SEC. Converse was all-conference in a favorable offensive environment. Can he convert to SEC? Who knows. Banks has a high end ceiling.

I would say the concern lies at S more than CB right now. Nobody looks good there or separating themselves. If one of the starters go down we're deep shite because the younger guys do not look like they're ready. There's no lack of recruiting there. They have 4 high recruited guys for depth and 3 of them are top 100 players yet all 3 haven't looked good.

The statement is relative. It might be completely true and we STLL see LSU have a decent secondary. That speaks to the strength of LSU's secondarys over the last 20 years.

There are some unknowns with what we have at CB, but the safety position will be a strength. I think that since our veteran CBs are mostly transfers in their first year, this statement was born of not knowing. But LSU's worst secondary is still better than what 90% of the nation fields.

Even if they are bad LSU has the best thing that helps a bad defensive backfield. A great d line.

If you take less talented DB’s from smaller programs and put an LSU helmet on them, that doesn’t make them better DB’s.

No coaches are giving them those quotes. I guarantee it’s some a-hole sitting in the corporate office making up random “insight”. FYI, of the 2 major season preview magazine providers, Athlon is headquartered in Nashville and Lindy’s is headquartered in Birmingham. Both of those publications write a ton of hit pieces on certain SEC programs they’re not even worth buying anymore

What makes you think S is a strength? Did you watch the spring game? Any injury there and you're in deep shite. Sage Ryan looked completely lost. I wouldn't be surprised if he's buried on the depth chart.

Davis - not ready

Langlois - definitely not ready physically

Ryan - lost not ready

Harris - you know what you have in him

Toles - is he even still on the roster? I don't remember seeing him

Burns - could be ready not too sure on him yet

Foucha/Ward are your guys. Foucha has been a good SEC S for Arkansas so we should expect that here. Ward isn't someone who stands out but he's decent. Safety is not a strength, it's a weakness right now. Toles, Davis, Ryan are all top 100 players and none of them have developed. Ryan was thought to be an instant impact player but he has a long ways to go. IMO, S is the weakest link on defense right now just for depth concerns.

Well the defensive line should help them out this year.
