I try to stay away from negative readings, thoughts and comments from anyone or entity. I am not built to hear negativity, but I do realize this season is just the beginning of what I hope to be the start of being competitive year in and year out.

"LSU will have their worst secondary in decades"
It’s not a stretch to say it will be the least talented secondary in years, especially given the the players we’ve had this century.
But as bad as the secondary and secondary coaching has been the last 2 years, I don’t believe the results will prove that this is the worst secondary we’ve had in decades.

So who should we believe Duece or Shiftyplus? Duece claims Safety position is a mess, shiftyplus thinks it will be a strength haha

2020 had one of the most "talented" secondaries we've had in decades and they got fricking torched every week.
Posted on 6/9/22 at 2:17 pm to Frank Black
we won't be the worse in decades but, we won't be very good in the secondary either.

Did they not watch LSU last season?

Historically, even in years where the secondary was elite there would always be a freshman who stepped up big time.
This year will be no different, and he will be needed - Laterrance Welch.

I think they are just quoting me at this point.

The fact of the matter is LSU has brought in 6 guys who all have tons of experience and 4 of those 6 guys have experience vs the best divisions and offenses. The Ohio St guy, if 100%, could be great for LSU. JBC from Oklahoma St was a lockdown corner. Garner from Lafayette has the size and experience for a backup role at the minimum. Then you have Brooks from Arkansas who will be a damn good slot corner and Fouche will control one spot with Ward filling the other. Burns should at least be serviceable in a backup role and Harris is average, but at least if he's the backup, that means LSU has gotten better at safety.
Welch comes in the fall and I think he has the chance to be good in spots even as a freshman. What we need is for Davis and Ryan to step up. If they can finally unlock their talent, we could be crazy good in the secondary.

You guys act like JBC isn’t good, the dude is probably a Top 10 CB in CFB this year, him alone we will be okay. Greg Brooks will be one of the better nickels in CFB this year too. I don’t believe this article or the quote.

quote:by the 7th game the starting corners were Flott and McGlothern. If you didn't know, neither of these guys were highly rated coming out, but they did enough by the end of the year. I'm willing to go out on a limb and say JBC from Okie St and Banks from Ohio St are better when healthy. Add in Brooks from Arkansas, Sage Ryan in year 3, a 6'1 190 guy in Garner from Lafayette, and a true freshman in Welch who I think could surprise some people in the fall, and LSU definitely looks better on paper than they did after losing Stingley and Ricks last year.
CB is certainly the biggest concern going into the season. The transfers help but they are a downgrade from the 4 we lost.

You are out of your mind. What is considered solid?????? Sage Ryan is not quick enough in the slot. He sure as hell can’t play outside. Todd Harris and Jordan Toles are not good football players. Film doesn’t lie! The TRUTH & reality is Ed and his staff completely missed on these safety’s.

quote:LSU's injury problems have to balanc3 out at some point. The last couple or years have been horrendous in injuries. Go back to a year like 2011. Brooks, Taylor, Reid, Mathieu, Claiborne, Simon, etc. All those guys played all year. Look at 2018, Greedy, Fulton, Delpit, Vincent, Stevens, etc. 2019 with Stingley, Fulton, Delpit, Vincent, Stevens, all year. Only 2020 and 2021 have we had these ridiculous problems.
LSU's problem is depth on defense. Once injuries start to pile that's where you'll start seeing the talent gap. We don't have enough depth in certain positions.
IMO, we are overreacting because of the past 2 years.

Probably right considering depth. Our top line guys can play with anybody—it’s if we start having injuries where it may catch up with us. BUT, we have a great front 4 that if they remain healthy—AND CAN GET HOME—should mitigate any deficiencies the secondary depth may pose. But I think House is gonna be great and figure out a way to put his talent to best use.

we have consistently had one of the top secondaries for decades, so we can still be decent but be the worst for LSU.
Yep

So only good instead of great?
Posted on 6/9/22 at 5:43 pm to Frank Black
On paper...or in hype..yes.
But when your superstar five stars choose to sit on the bench, don't practice or play, you have a real problem. Did you watch the last two years? How much did the superstar contribute the last two years?
Give me capable guys with motivation and something to prove.
