Someone posted a thread with a fan chosen top bowl/CFP game and LSU/UCF was the top choice.

The top reason it's the biggest game is the 8 game CFP discussion which has exploded the last 2 weeks. Big 10, Big 12 and Pac 12 have all started a push for 8 and although tOSU may be one of the more legitimate cases of a team left out, UCF is being held up as the case for 8. It was being discussed on radio this AM and coaches and ADs are propping UCF up to make their case. Not that they think UCF is deserving, but they are using them as a catalyst.

As the Fiesta Bowl draws closer you will see the fans, pundits and coaches pick sides. Some will want UCF to win to build their case and others will choose LSU to put the discussion to rest. Either way, all eyes will be on Tempe, AZ on January 1st.

Bit of hyperbole there, but I get what you’re trying to say I suppose.

If you listen to Sirius 84, what he is saying is true. They have gone over this a hundred times in the last week.

Whether you agree or not, this is the narrative that's floating around the sports shows. Wingo and Golic talked about it for about an hour and then brought Huepel the UCF coach on later to talk about it, but I missed that interview. .

I can’t remember the last time LSU actually showed up for a game where not a whole lot was on the line. I’m not sure why this has been an issue with the Tigers, but they seem to under perform in games like this.

With that said, I see them coming out flat as a pancake.

I see the opposite, hope I am correct. Can't see White allowing his team mates to be flat.

But, I'm usually not.

Let's not get carried away. This game will prove little about UCF. To me this game will prove more about the LSU program. There are no excuses for the LSU offense if it doesn't perform well. It's not a "new offense". It will have a healthy O-line. Obviously the defensive depth chart has taken a hit with attrition/injuries but it's "next man up".

Rest assured that UCF will be playing with a chip on its shoulder.....agreessive play calling included. LSU will fall back to a grind it out wear them down boring offense.

They were saying, no one really cares about UCF. Some are just hoping they win to prop up the 8 team CFP case. Ohio St winning doesn't help the cause. Another season of UCF going undefeated does. Few really care about us or UCF. It's using the game to justify the narrative. Hence the true interest.

It is way past time to expand to an eight team playoff. Every year team # 5 and often #6 have legitimate arguments to be included. Teams 7 and 8 not so much but no one should get a bye so there needs to be two more. The complaints would come fom teams nine and ten, of course but their point would be less relevant than the current ones from five and six.

Then all Power five champions automaticaly ge a bid and the group of Notre Dame, non power 5 champs a and power 5 non confernce champs are consiered. The six major bowls host rounds one and two with a chmpionship site selected as usual.

Also teams from the same conference don't meet in round one.

Not even close. It's meaningful for the two participants but the nation as a whole could not care less.

I think it is opposite they show up but like Clemson game a few years back they were out coaches. They played hard last year against ND but made critical coverage mistakes that cost them game and as usual were lacking a QB that gave them firepower. I think they are going to be fire up because of National exposure for U F and Ogeron wants to end on a high note for recruiting purposes. What makes game intriguing is UCF is lacking on Def and Tigers are lacking in this dept...while UCF has an offense that looks like it can keep up with big boys and LSU has a big boy Def

Not really. If these Tigers can put up 72 points and 496 yards on Aggy they will have enough offense to beat UCF.

What I find troubling is LSU's slow starts on offense. Three-and-outs on first two series vs A&M. They need to be assertive on offense early vs UCF and establish dominance in that game immediately.

I agree with the top 8 teams but I disagree with the all Power 5 champs get in. Who would seriously want Washington in the playoff? If your conference sucks then it sucks.

The exact same thing was said when the 4 team case was being made “well 5 and 6 may complain but it’s better than the third team”.

You aren’t making a case for 9 and 10 to be #1, you’re making a case for them against the last 2 or 3 teams in. Every time the playoff expands it becomes harder to differentiate between the “next teams” and the last few teams in, and the number of teams with legitimate complaints would likely double each time.

Washington in the playoff

And Washington was the best team in a sucky Pac 12! A team on a big stage in Atlanta in September and couldn't overcome an SEC team which finished with a losing record in conference play.

This narrative needs to stop! They did not put up 72 points and 570 yards in a regular game... they did it over the course of two games worth of plays!

That's why I'm a proponent of the 8 team playoff whereby the five P5 champs get auto-bids, and then three at-large spots (which may become auto-bids based on concrete criteria).

For example: A team finishing in the top 6 of the final playoff rankings receives an auto-bid, no questions asked.

Another example: The top-ranked G5 team receives an auto-bid granted they are ranked in the Top 10 of the final playoff rankings and have defeated at least 2 P5 teams. Make it somewhat fair for G5 teams to have a shot.

Keep the playoff committee and rankings for at-large purposes, but get rid of the "eye test" bullshite. Lay down exactly what criteria qualifies a team for the playoffs.

And I don't want to hear any BS about a 9-3 P5 team winning their conference and making the playoffs. 9-7 teams win their division in the NFL and nobody complains.

Want a guaranteed shot at the playoffs? Win your damn conference!

This argument would be realistic if UCF still had their starting qb. However, without him, a win over UCF does not put any discussion to rest.
