LSU wins that game we win the SEC. State wins 1 SEC game all year and it’s against LSU. Also LSU should have been awarded the title after Florida was stripped

John Bond happened.

Edit:
Actually Bond graduated in ‘83. He was kryptonite to LSU. Not sure what happened in ‘84. Didn’t some kicker from Baton Rouge win the game for Mississippi state in the last seconds?

I was there. First game ever in Tiger Stadium. Both of us, fiancé, now wife, were State students.

I was at LSU in ‘85. That was the start of our lifelong LSU love affair.

The 84 game was at MSU. Lundie ran all over us.

I was at the MSU game in 1984. I was a freshman in the band. The week before, we went to Bama and won 16-14. The band did a little damage to the hotel, so Frank Wickes decided we would go to MSU the next week, but we would bus to the game and bus back in one day. Talk about a long day.

We played like crap and lost 16-14. MSU has always been at the bottom of the SEC in resources. Back then, they put the visitor band in the end zone in some rinky dink aluminum bleachers.

After the game, all 25 MSU students stormed the field, came to the end zone and gave us a bunch of middle fingers and crotch grabs. Of course we had to take it, but I remember one snare drummer wanting to charge the field. Fun times.

Trivia question - Who is the opposing QB with the most victories over LSU?

That would be John Bond. Four straight victories over LSU. No other quarterback has done that in history.

My wife and I were at that game in Starkville. We got ahead and State came back and beat us as time expired. That game kept us from being SEC champions. UF was on probation, so we went to the Sugar Bowl and got pushed around by Nebraska.

Lundie from Bogalusa played QB in place of an injured Don Smith. Lundie was high school teammate of Roggie Magee, LSU wr. That season with Florida on probation was the only time in the history of the SEC that a champion was not crowned. Even though LSU represented the SEC in the Sugar Bowl, no official championship was awarded. Look up 1984 SEC champion and no one is listed.
