LSU v Auburn recently has been extra crazy

I have argued in prior posts that I believe the LSU v Auburn series is the best in the SEC since 1992 expansion (and I don't think it's particularly close). However, the last four meetings have been especially nuts.
2016 - LSU appears to score a TD and win in the last second on the road, but they didn't get the play off in time, in a microcosm of all that was wrong and right with the Miles era in Baton Rouge. He is fired that night ushering in the Ed Orgeron era.
2017 - Orgeron now finds himself firmly on the hot seat losing at home to Troy. The Tigers go on the road and pull out a gutty gritty one-point win in Florida (that should have been in Tiger Stadium). The following week LSU falls down 20-0 to Auburn, and the boards are already murmuring about O's replacement. LSU claws their way back, behind a great Chark return for a TD, among other things, and LSU comes back to outscore the Plainsmen 27-3 the rest of the way. Orgeron is safe for one more year.
2018 - Ed goes out and picks up Joe Burrow AND Cole Tracy from the transfer portal in the offseason. Burrow completes a 70 yard 4th quarter TD to Derrick Dillon and Cole Tracy gives LSU its first walk off win in this crazy arse series.
2019 - Maybe not as much drama, but many would argue that this was the most hard fought win of the 2019 campaign, with Auburn scoring a late TD to make the onside kick extremely interesting. LSU recovers and goes on to complete the greatest season in college football history, with a coach who would not be on the sidelines but for this nutty series.
What does 2020 have in store for us (that we haven't already seen in this insane year)?

For two schools who had very little history between them prior to 1992 (the Earthquake game being the exception), it's turned into one of, if not the most noteworthy matchups. 11 of the last 20 games have been decided by less than 10 points. And 4 of the 9 games with a double-digit spread were from 2000 - 2003. So blowouts since 2003 have been relatively rare.
History suggest it might be time for "blowout" (i.e. a game decided by double digits) seeing as how the last 4 have been VERY close. Then again, outside of 2015, Auburn hasn't blown LSU out at JHS since 2002

Soooo many great games.
I was on the field working for student media the night the building caught fire behind JHS and Raion Hill returned an interception for a TD to seal the win for LSU. ‘96 I think.

Lots of close ones, but LSU won 10 of the last 13 meetings so it's actually been a little one-sided.

You mean 2014. That one was tough to watch.

This is one that I circle every year on the calendar

2001-2007 auburn/LSU was crazier
2001: 2 years after cigar gate, Onside kick to start, win the West for first time
2002/2003: Exact same score in reverse
2004: Penalty on the missed extra point
2005: The FG game
2006: Refgate
2007: One second left

The 1970 game on the Plains was an especially tough game with conference title implications. Earlier in the season, Texas A&M upset LSU in the finals seconds for the Tigers only loss of the season, and AU was unbeaten and in first place in the SEC. The game was played in the mud after a big rain the night before that continued into Saturday afternoon. Auburn had upset 17th ranked Tennessee (the eventual one loss Sugar Bowl champions) and 16th ranked Georgia Tech. The Plainsmen were averaging 30-points a game but had not faced a defense as tough as the Mike Anderson/Tommy Casanova/John Sage led Tiger D. With a consistent rushing attack led by Art Cantrelle, and a spectacular, last minute 4th Quarter goal line stand, the Bayou Bengals finished off the War Eagles, 20-15. Auburn would lose only once more at home against Georgia and LSU lost a heartbreaking 3-0 game in South Bend against the Golden Domers. The Tigers went on to win the SEC, but lost to eventual National Champion Nebraska in the Orange Bowl, 17-12. Auburn beat the Archie Manning-led Ole Miss Rebels in the Gator Bowl to finish 10-2. Pat Sullivan would win the 1971 Heisman Trophy. LSU finished 9-3, which kept alive the Tigers streak of 9-wins a year from 1969-1973.

Def the most under rated rivalry in the SEC.

Definitely weird rivalry
Bama has had more talent over LSU during the 8 game streak and LSU finally caught up in the trenches this past season. Some of the games LSU was light years away.
Auburn probably has less talent than LSU over that span but the games have been close. Auburn really gets up for the LSU game but LSU dominates them in Tiger Stadium and has fared well in the road games as well.

This has been an intense rivalry ever since Auburn stomped on the eye in 2001.

The weirdness goes back to when I was a kid in the late 80's.
The earthquake game
The 1992 game at Auburn where true frosh Jamie Howard comes in late and leads them back from a 27-7 deficit to a 28-7 lead with a minute and a half left, only to watch the defense give up a game winning FG as time ran out.
The pick 6 game
The "magic is back" game
The Cecil Collins game
The burning barn
the cigar game
The cigar revenge/AU punter fights the band game
When I think back, nearly every game from '92 on was close and had serious drama. It's by far the best series LSU has, though neither would consider the other a rival.

Go back even further. 94 pick six again and a again. 95 magic back. 96 barn burner. 97 Craig, can’t remember the year but cigar smoking on the 50 and 2001 lsu wins the west.

Auburn always seems to play us close 90% of the time.

This is my favorite game of the year and those early-mid 2000s were wars on the field. It has not been the same since Tommy Tubberville left but it’s still my favorite game along with Florida.

Bama lost to Ole Miss just before kickoff. That game was over before it began.

It's interesting that we get them right before the Iron Bowl this year. It should leave the fate of the West up for grabs all the way down to the last 2 weeks of the season, especially considering we close with the Aggies. I'm not sure who that favors in that situation, but it should add some more spice to the series.
